As long as its not too hot for them they should be fine.
Use tape instead of paper for your labels
Put a cheap thermometer on top the res for temps.
Use your hand to guage how close you can go then verify with the thermometer dont go over 80 (imo)
Oh yea they look ok so far dont go and love them to death

600 watt MH for seedlings? It works if that's all you have but your wasting energy. Wasting energy = wasting money. Money you could put towards some T5's for this stage of growth...

Sorry about the tangent...to answer your question...lights seem to be perfect distance for that intensity.

its all I have but the ballast can go down to 400w.
or I have like 4 florescent bulbs but im not sure if they're enough

I like the fact that you're doing Hydro for your first grow! If you need any help along the way don't be afraid to ask...I've been doing hydro (DWC and Coco) for years.. Good luck to ya!

Go with what you have. I would decrease wattage and adjust the light accordingly.

Ya, at first I was gonna go soil at first for obvious reasons but after really looking into it DWC seemed easy and effective which is my fucking motto in life lol. The only question I have left is im lost on how important RO vs distilled vs tap water is. How much of a difference in the grow will I see between them. Right now my tap water EC is at .03 but I have no clue if thats bad to use or not.

Your tap water is fine...and the best way to go. Are you going to transfer to individual buckets? Personally I would but, only if you can afford to. The initial start up can be a little costly.

Yes, lower the lamp but first get a thermometer so you don't fry them. 400 watts I would go to about 3 feet above them and see how they react.

The 2 most important things to consider when doing dwc is: Can you keep the water temps below 68F at all times? And you must keep your ph in check.

Where I live my water is unsuitable for drinking but the plants love it.i would just go RO.. you literally start from scratch. my tap water is unusable. yours might be okay

If you invest in a R O system just use it to make drinking water... it's what happened to me.
