Northeast weather 2017

Mass/RI line here, the weather sucked yesterday (Sunday, 9/3). I didn't even realize it was raining overnight until I woke up and decided to throw my 2 girls inside my shed and leave the door open for air flow. That's the only thing that I can do with them, unfortunately. People with screened porches are so lucky to be able to put them inside when needed. My shed does do the job just fine but I wish I had a better way to deal with it. I need to purchase a decent greenhouse that I can take down each year (I'm sure snow would ruin it).

EDIT - I just checked the 10-day forecast for Southern New England and looks like we got about 3 to 4 solid days of rain coming this week. What a bummer.
I got this greenhouse for cheap($115) but if you go to source cheaper still- Easy takedown for cover- put it up by myself
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014JPGG1S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Just pull cover when done, store, and leave frame in place

Looking at the 10 day forcast. It looks beautiful. All sun, except for a chance of rain on Wednesday.

Maybe I'll end up with a decent harvest after all...

Nothing much going on weather wise here in Larry Land. Just one fair to middling sized hurricane. I hope it has lost most of it's punch before it reaches me.

Irma has actually drawn the rain to it, so I have had a four day break, about the longest this summer. It was too late for my Poly Shunk 1, which went into meltdown last weekend. I saved about 20% of it, and shelled out 200 or so seeds from the rotten part. I'll do a fall/winter seed test with them. Hope it does better then.

The next 5 days look perfect, same as the last 2 or 3.

Forecast says 4 days straight of showers starting on the 15th though...errrggghhh.

They have been loving the last few days...finally starting to bulk up.

Looks like we're finally getting a break weather wise in the NE. Been low 80's and sunny last few days and it looks like that will continue. I'm just about 3-4 weeks into flower and really need good weather for the next month.

My plants don't seem to mind the cold one bit, night time temps still low 50's. No purpling at all. Just waiting for these flowers to mature, haven't needed to water much at all either, most plants, light water every 10 days aprox.

Man, every 10 days huh? Mine are super thirsty. They are taking 1.5 gallons each approx every other day. Depending on weather conditions.

The 10 day forecast looks great. I'm looking at around early October I think/hope.

I think we had one day in the 90's for the whole month of August. Now it's unusually cold. Nights have been in the low 50's high 40's. My outdoor crops have taken it like a champ though. Fully green, no purple. I'm 3 weeks into flower. Remnants of Harvey gonna ruin tomorrow but low 80's Monday.

I'm just trying plump up my crop now. Last year didn't chop till October 10th. Looks like I'm gonna run into October again.

Any other outdoor northeast peeps notice it's a lot colder this year.
Yup, 85 today 45 tonight. Dew and early flower bad mix. I set up a fan to keep air moving and shake her down as often as possible.

Sweet baby Jesus it's wet out. Rain, mist, fog, wind. My meter in the garage says 96% RH. Luckily my ghetto greenhouse held up and kept the rain off.

I brought them in early to get them under the fan. 3 days straight of rain on the forecast.
1 down, 2 to go...

Still pretty!
Thanks! They are getting there, I think.

Last thing I grew was a sunflower in a Dixie cup in kindergarten, so I don't have any metric for success besides pictures on here. After this rain, I'm gonna start flushing. Just trying to keep them in the light and outta the rain until then!

Flushing is the subject of much debate here. I'm on the side of it not being beneficial to the plant or the eventual product.

Besides, isn't the rain doing it for you? LOL

Haha. No, I have the world's most embarrassing ghetto greenhouse protecting them during the day so they get light but stay dry. At night they are in the garage under the fans.

So what's your overview on not flushing? Ive heard...

"Feed until the end"...vs. "no dont, flush the last 2 weeks or it will ruin the flavor." Plus some people say molasses with the water during the flush?

I don't know enough to have a plan based on anything but the opinions of others.

The biggest factor in my decision so far has been the "high level" growers I've watched all say flush. But I'm sure there are others who don't flush, and get great results. So it's tough to decide...

From the quick reading I just did now, it seems like flushing can be beneficial, but it depends on grow media, over all goal of the grow, and the scale of the grow operation.

So for my 2 plants in soil that will only yield flowers meant for friends and family, flushing probably isn't worth the potential dip in yield for the small bump in perceived "quality".

Does that sound like total bullshit or am I close to understanding?

My own theory is first not to overfeed them in peak bloom, second feed them lightly near the end and third flavor is something that is best addressed by good curing techniques.

So feed them rationally, lighten up near the end but don't starve them and then cure them slowly after harvest and you'll be happy with the results.

That sounds reasonable to me. Plus with the reading I just started doing, I think I'm officially out of the flushing camp. For this grow at least. I'll experiment on the next run and see what's what for myself.

If the ash from your bud is white or at least salt/pepper, and the smoke smooth on your lungs, you don't need to change what you are doing.

If it "burns like a flare and tastes like ass", or the ash is black and the smoke is harsh, you should change something up. Either reduce nutes during flower, flush, or be more careful in curing, depending on who you are reading. ;)

Well said. I'm sure everyone who trys the finished product will be honest with me about how it turns out! I'm growing it for friends and family who come visit. Once it was legalized in MA, it dawned on me that I always have beer and wine on hand to offer guests, why not bud? I don't smoke, but I thought it would be fun to have the option for people who do.

Hopefully the feedback I get from them will be enough to up my game next time around!

Feel like this will be a never ending debate. Souly my opinion, earth grows need not worry about "flushing" the plant is only gonna take up what she needs. There's no viable way to do it anyway. Sounds like garbage to me anyway. The plant is what you made it. Not gonna all of a sudden change it's molecular make up by dumping clear water on it. I would just stay away from chem. fert all together if your that worried about it. on the other hand it's been a while since I grew Indoors. Possible it could make a diff. If the plant was parched and gave it a couple of dire waterings. Overall not many people could tell the diff. Just tell em it's flushed lok
