To replace 1000w hps will need aprox 500w of CoB's, less if they are higher efficiency. CoB's liberate so much light from such a small area you really need multiple cob's to distribute the light, how much distribution you need depends on your ceiling height and planned crop height. If you have restricted headroom go for 10 x 50w cobs if yer hanging height is high enuff go with 5 x 100w, tho saying that you can get 3 x 40w vero 18's for the price of one 120w vero 29 and it would be advantageous to use more of the smaller units for thermal regulation but more complex wiring with many times the potential failure points.Looking for information on what the best way to go is with LED lighting. And what is the the best light out there to purchase thats equivalent to a 1000w HPS. And am I better off with one big light or a couple small ones?
you sure, dude? id go with 650-700w led myself, nah?1000w hps will need aprox 500w

but is it? at 515w... that would be pretty impressive, right?markets that as a 1000W HPS replacement
We are waiting on @Moflow to tell us. The sneaky bugger has one that he is yet to use himself.but is it? at 515w... that would be pretty impressive, right?
Just 2 boards or 2 kits? I replaced one of mine with 2x the 260w kits using 2x 288s per kit. To be fair that's replacing 1.5x 600w hps since I used to run 3 in a 8x4.I replaced a 600W High Pressure Sodium light with two QB288's in a 4x4 tent. I feel two QB288's couple possibly replace a 1000W HID.
with its 1265 ppf it replaces a single ended HPS which is just over 1300 ppf with a fresh bulb and declines as bulb ages
apart from electrical efficiency a lot of its gains are due to no reflector losses that the HPS suffers.
but thats true of any forward facing LED. you could get the same performance as the 550 with 16 small cobs/ 9 large cobs in an array run at 1050 mA or so
Too many lights to try with too little space at moment..... lolWe are waiting on @Moflow to tell us. The sneaky bugger has one that he is yet to use himself.
Two "kits", my apologies. Drawing a bit over 500 watts from the wall on high.Just 2 boards or 2 kits? I replaced one of mine with 2x the 260w kits using 2x 288s per kit. To be fair that's replacing 1.5x 600w hps since I used to run 3 in a 8x4.
