When i go to 3.5 gal pots i use the hydroton on the bottom....with promix mychrohazea. Right now theyre in 1 gal without hydroton. Except one. I tried it in one and its still a pooper... lol

You wash the clay dust off before you put the hydroton in the buckets or na?

I always do with ro water but always wondered if i should bother...

I do rinse, and I use it even in solos.

What size pots? Are those 2's or something? Is this Veg? You could Bloom em with 7's and get nice yield. Should get up to at least a 5 if sex is certain or identified.

Then i will do clones....8 clones will go to 1 gal then 3.5 gal pots...veg about 5 weeks total then flip. I usually hit 6 ounces per plant with hps...havent hot that with cob yet but thats .e struggling to dial in...

Whatever falls or remains I just toss. I don't scrape or work to loosen what the roots are holding, I just plant it.

I thought so too and have been httin them with the cal mag last 4 waterings... about 5ml per gallon....wondering if it shpuld be more?

Leaf stems are purple.
Purple stripes on main stems is fine, probably genetic, but seeing them on leaf stems is a sign of mag deficiency.

It can also be a sign of phosphorus deficiency.

I thought it was phosperoous and chased that...

The cal mag was added by fluke becase i heard cob guys really have to watch that.

Cal and mag are immobile and i wonder from recent experience if that is related somehow to phosperhous deficency???? IE....i had bad phosperous deficeny last run....was classic...all the signs....then BOOM! All of a sudden cal mag deficeny was all over and FAST...and bad....

Crippled my yield....

I thought i might have had salt build up and lock out.... but im ususally really carefull about that

Small containers are very easy to get salt build up and PH lockout in.

Do a slurry test in my opinion.

They then respond with higher PPM -- which adds more P and makes the problem worse.
Eventually the plant wilts because it's completely overwhelmed with nutes and cannot process H2O.

Also keep in mind that there's a balance between cal & mag. If you've got enough calcium and add cal-mag, it may not work as you expect because of the extra Ca, when you only needed Mg.

You might be right , that's why i said do a slurry test to test the PH first and the PPM's.

That could be a great tip for me. I have hard water here. Starts at 250 ppm. Lots of calcium in it. So....been wondering if i actually need more...

I highly doubt you do, use epsom salts or langbenite(sul-po-mag) to supplement magnesium.
