Fiberglass Insulation, Viable Growing Medium?

I want to experiment with fiberglass, I want to sterilize it, press it into a mold and make my own grow cubes. Is this a bad idea?
There are very few resources about fiberglass being used as a growing medium, can someone point me in the right direction?

Rock wool is nothing but a form of fiberglass ? ?

Cant hurt to experiment, just start with cheap seed and see what happens ? ?

Im guessing your thinking about fiberglass insulation as its cheap and readily available, That stuff can make you itchy as hell, when the fibres go airborn if possible wet it before playing with it, and dont mess with it while sweaty as the fibres will stick to you;

Fiberglass compared to rockwool is much nicer, in the itch department.

I would avoid working with fiberglass because the dust is harmful to the lungs, micro crystalline silica, sticks in there and causes silicosis.

Shit really?
Got me worried haha! I insulate homes for a living and I'll tell ya, 80 percent of us don't wear masks.

Well doing a quick search it appears that it mostly gets stuck in the upper airway rather than getting into the lungs themselves, but it still causes irritation. Just not the best choice for growing medium, even though it might work. Just too irritating to handle. I would look for other work though, if at all possible. Maybe asbestos removal...kidding. Just pay some poor slob to do the dirty work for you, unless you're stuck in poor slob mode yourself. In which case, my sympathies. I actually worked for a few weeks blowing insulation into houses. Worst job around. Mercifully, it didn't last long.

stupid fucking idea man, tripping over dollars to pick up nickels. your plant could be worth a thousand dollars with four ounces on it. you wanna save pennies on a root plug? wtf?

that fiberglass insulation is chemically treated to be fire retardant, be retarded to eat it, breathe it, grow in it or even install it without proper gear.

this is the ultimate tool for tools wishing to use tools like a tool http://bfy.tw/D2c5

Yeah that is pretty insane. That's exactly the kind of work dust masks were made for. Those guys were like I look funny, Cletus, look at me, I'm Dr Zaius from Planet of the Apes, haha. I'm taking this shit off now. Dust masks indeed. What dust, right Cletus? Hack hack, coff.
I used to supervise the dudes removing asbestos from schools, offices buildings, detroit areas. the assholes would be in containment
toking, eating pizza, while others were hacking 'stos from the ceilings and pipes. everyone was required to wear a PAPR, for common sense even, which often was lacking. If they fired these goofs nobody would be there to work......I quit the biz when I saw them empty the contaminated water onto the playgrounds at area schools, hundreds of gallons of it at a time several times a day

That's disturbing. Did you bother to tip off the schools? Cuz if you didn't then you realize that makes you a monster, right?

I told eyewitness news. they interviewed other supervisors, ones with kids and mortgages and probations and debts. I knew nobody from the schools, they were vacant, no contact with anyone but employees and bosses. everyone turned their eyes. even the news. contractor was good for the city provided much jobs and insured a continued radiation therapy for local physicians for decades to come. no cell phones then, no digi cams, no proofs, Ima out of there, monsterness and all. that was before I heard the term whistle blower, before any protections could be offered, back when people who fucked with multi million dollar contracts could be left with a bubbling trunk view.

Nobody cares.

Back in the day when I was in the printing industry, I tried to report the illegal chemical dumping that all printing companies do and have done for decades.

Nobody cared. They still don't. They sit there on the news talking about how there are unbelievable amounts of silver, potassium, ammonia and other harmful chemicals and heavy metals in the water coming into treatment centers and wonder where it all comes from.

A good deal of it comes from the printing industry who simply pour all their plate processing, film processing, fountain concentrates and pretty much everything else right down the damn sink rather than pay for chemical disposal.

yep. notice those who care would not bother being around such corruption. Those who care have more sense to avoid the things they cannot change maybe. I dunno man, I crawled up into a hole, surrounded by 100 foot pine trees on 12 acres, 350 feet from the dirt road. these days......If shit happens outside my gate.....and I dont see it.....it really didnt happen at all...:P
