2x2 LED scrog grow (rough start... )

Hey all!

Intro:

Long time researcher, first time journaler.

I am starting with 2 plants (clones of a heirloom CCK strain).

Last grow I did with a clone from their mamma was pretty successful (I think) for only using CFL bulbs (6500k) to veg and a 120 watt UFO LED for flower only. It has been 2 years, but I believe my yeild was around 1.5-2 oz off a single plant. I am hoping to get double that this time.

Setup:



Space--2'w x 2'l x 4'h (current) 6'h (planned).

Light(s)--300w (124 real) Galaxy Hydro 300w, 2 6500k CFL (24/0 veg stage) adding the UFO to the flower stage (12/12). I am keeping them 18-20 inches up for now, will adjust as needed.

Screen--made screen from pvc pipes/string.

Medium--organic soul with worm castings, will supplement with nuts once they start growing again.

Note: I have a scrubber as well. But I don't remember the specs offhand.

There problem:

I had to transport the clones and the space wasnt ready so, the girls ended up not getting enough sun; even though I left them outside for a week, trying to quicken the veg growth. Instead, they got confused and started to flower early.

I ended up deciding to try my luck switching them back to veg.I plan to scrog so I am hoping that the extra time to return them to veg won't hurt to bad since I would be extending it anyhow. I pinched all the bud sites, trimmed them down, and put them under the 24 hope light about a week so.


Growth is halted (as expected). Some this is likely to be a challenging grow (starting out poorly) I figured I should share ( in case I need help, lol). Thanks for following!

Your soil looks completely black. Did you put perlite in it to help with the draining.

Nothing extra, there is some in the mix, though. It was raining when I transplanted (10-15 min before pic) so that might explain why it is so dark?

Well if you transplant again I woukd add some. In my experience. The better the drainage the better the plant will grow. The better the plant grows. The better the flowers. If you don't add some it doesn't drain right. Cause ur ph to get outta wack. Root problems. Nute lockout. Just some advice. I mix my soil by the cup per pot. 2 cups perlite to 1 cup Ffof soil 1 cup organic earthgro soil. Not telln ya how to do it. But if say you need some perlite or something to help drainage. Good luck

That is probably good advice! I don't know that I will be able to safely transplant again. The root balls are pretty large/spread out at this point. I'm not sure how I could add/changes the soil without causing major issues.

I will certainly keep it in mind for the next set.

Sorry for the delay!
Updates:

• Transferred to smart pots a couple weeks ago (shorter/easier to water, heard good things).
• Lined the room with Panda Film.
• Did some initial LST training with zip ties (ended up accidently super cropping one... (Split the "trunk")).
• Made a screen from PVC pipes and string, and added it to room.
• Spent 1 week on pure H2O, 3 on 1/4-3/4 strength Fox Farm veg nutes.
• Temp has been a steady 80° and the humidity has been 55-75%.

Both ladies really seem to be digging their new space the screen in 75-80% full.

The plan:

• 1-2 more weeks in veg to get the screen 90+% full.
• Defoilation/pulling clones from lower branches (for ongoing "perpetual" growing).
• 2 weeks of flower (with continued daily LST).
• Sit back and watch them plump up.

I haven't come across any big issues yet, there is still time though...

You are gonna love the Galaxy Light, I used them for a bunch of grows! Don't be afraid to let the plants grow into the lights as close as 2-3 inches from the top. In sea of green style I have found that the sweet spot for the densest and frostiest nuts is from the top of the canopy to about 12-14" down...after that it gets larfy...anyways good luck!

I am going to do some significant pruning soon, but I am a little nervous. I usually trim anything below the screen but these seem to be extra bushy. I'm thinking the light might have good canopy penetration.

We will see.

Looks fine to me. As long as there's airflow under the canopy. And not too many litte suckers hiding underneath. You're doing fine.

Decided to try some defoilation, but figured I would keep one as a control.

I know it is extreme and there seems to be a lot of back and forth on its effectiveness.

But like when I was a child, I still have to learn for myself sometimes.

Whoa buddy. You really cut back a whole lot there. Cutting it back is fine. But those look almost naked.

She will bounce back just fine! In three weeks you will be silently wondering if you should defoliate again lol

I won't say I've not done this myself. I've definitely stripped plants right back. But, I think it's a bit excessive. Especially when you realize the leaves are the solar panels of the plant.

It seems that she is coming back with a vengeance.

Pulling clones tomorrow and switching to flower early but next week.

Do y'all stop giving veg nutes before switching light?



I know a lot of people seem to suggest a 24hr dark period before switching. I believe usually don't do that, but at this point I'm just kind of hoping for the best, lol.

I am going to delete the other one (Tankallen) to prevent future confusion; if I can figure it out...

Anyhow. I did another (much smaller) trim 3 days ago and pulled these clones. They seem to be doing relatively well (I am hoping):

The ladies themselves are doing pretty well.

8 weeks in, things are looking good. Going to do a less extreme defoilation/take out everything below the screen, then I think it is ready for flower. Her they are before defoilation.
