Anyone know where to Hexane or Pentane in Canada?

Sorry "to buy" in Canada

I need to clean up an extraction but the stuff is impossible to find.
Dunno where to get it but I doubt it would be a good way to clean extract, considering you can smell even tiny amounts of it as residue. That's why few people use them, or heptane. They smell like gas. Might be okay if the strain is Diesel but otherwise probably not. Hexane has a toxic metabolite too, though I think the other two don't, at least I know heptane doesn't. Maybe try to find ethyl acetate instead.

hexane/saline wash through a separatory funnel, need a non-polar solvent for this. I dont even need the HPLC grade, the ACS grade would be fine. Pentane or any room temp liquid non-polar solvent that will not mix with water. I will then use iso or eth to finish.

This method just makes sense in this case. I have lots of what people around here call "oil" but its more like road tar if you ask me. However I happen to have all the lab equipment, 2L separatory funnel , distillation apparatus etc. I also happen to have lots of ISO, but dont know of a method to clean other crappier qwiso with more iso, other than filtering the crap out of it. Too much work imho, I like this option... just the stuff is only deliverable to a commercial address in Canada. If you are a company you can buy it no issue, dont even have to be a chemical company, you could be a beauty salon. Kinda bonkers.

Anyway, when I do find a place that sells it i will post back here.

I don't think it's possible to clean it up much with a simple saline wash, other than removing water solubles. Won't change the color though. However, you could do the wash without solvent. You would just heat the water up to the point where the oil liquifies, mix it around until satisfied, let the water cool. You should then be able to get most of the extract clumped together with a spoon or something, since it sticks to itself. The rest will adhere to the container sides and bottom and will need to be scraped off, so make sure you use something that you get at with a scraper easily. Or you could wash it out with alcohol. If an emulsion is formed then you need more salt. Pure salt, like "kosher", not iodized. I guess you'd need to rewash it with pure deionized water to get any salt out. Some extracts will float on water, which makes it easier to get one clump out of it. Of course some drying would be required later. Sometimes it comes out looking like a light brown slime, due to the water mixed in.

Real parchment paper is good for drying, because moisture passes through. Not the kind wit silicone on it though, just the cheap pure paper kind sold in grocery stores in the foil section. You can sandwich it between two sheets and roll it out thin to expose more surface area to hasten drying. Then hang it on a line or lay it on a screen or whatever.

Also don't use tap water, which you probably weren't going to anyway. Can't be anything alkaline in the water or it may combine with any THCA in the extract and make it soluble, meaning it would get washed out.

To get a lighter color product you'd probably have to distill it somehow.

Maybe hexane would remove the color then, according to that page. For a source, probably Amazon.

What I do for my questionable orders is I have it delivered to my grow shop. I have developed a friendship over the years that they will do me favors like that when I need something I can't get set to or don't want to get sent to my house

nothing questionable about it. It is a commonly used product (commercially), just have some nanny province regs to get around. My local hydro store used to sell us bulk ISO (20L), but not anymore. I doubt they would be interested in sourcing this, but thanks for the suggestion, next time I am there I will ask just in case.

One of the major distributors here in Canada has pointed me to a shop in Toronto today, so if its legit I will post back.

Bestine can be found at most art supply stores and Amazon and is 100% hepetane..it makes a very perdy extract..but it is kinda hard to remove from the extract after cause of the BP but if you plan on using ISO or etoh anyway might as well use that

Wow, that looks like the ticket, just checked the MSDS and yer right 100% heptane. That would work perfect however seems it is no longer available (on Amazon at least). I will ask at my local art supply place.

Yeah I see your boiling point (heh heh) its a little high, I can drive hexane off with ISO or ETH to below perceptible limits with repeated washes, it will be ISO in my case as its plentiful. I am not sure that would work with heptane. 98 degrees is way high so would need maybe to vac purge probably. Have you done this?

Looks like they got it for 15$ a quart? If you have a "dick-blick" art supply I know they carry it

I have used it to make honey oil before and it did make a very nice golden extract, but took a while in the vac chamber to purge and even then was still some residuals I'm sure, but if you dissolve it in some warm ISO I'm sure that will help get rid of what's left behind

Little old , but
Step 6 in this book will help you

Petroleum ether might be easier to get?

I followed the steps, and got tar with solids that pasted tho the coffee filters.
After it was cooked off, I put it in a mag hot plate , with 20x it’s volume in iso and 2x the oils weight in AC .
After another filtering , the solids came out
I’m still cooking , but it looks 100x better .
I plan on trying it tonight, then i might try ether. But it’s all so much work.
Going to make coconut oil today.

This is a time consuming process.. Its very messy. And hexane sucks as cleaning solvent. Id only use hexane in thca crashes but even thats outdated process. Just like the process your tryna recreate. Outdated!. Try ethyl alchol and filters with a buncher funnel
