Yes, I was trying to 'diplomatically' say that maybe looking at the research was a two way street.
I made a point of saying and I quote "How do YOU know it isn't superior tech? Real world experience... or something you've read?"
Apparently that part touched a nerve. I got a few messages after that - I fought your corner as much as I could with one certain member... although he is possiblely the most stubborn person I have ever spoken with!

They need to smoke more ;-)

Oh man, yes they've shipped... sooner than I thought aswell! I'm getting a sense of my pre-Christmas excitement as a 12 year old!

@Mister_Green it blows my mind mate. you would think a load of weed growers would like the idea of more light for less money, without the heat...Its a no brainer. The numbers I've presented them time and time again are lab results... and they wanna argue it cause their tiny brains don't understand the numbers...I find it infuriating and im super chilled normally. Life's too short to put up with that level of ignorance (:

Yassss haha I know the feeling! 4ish days from today i reckon...eeeek! Got all your bits and pieces like tent and things?

@lukio It's a shame because a select few of them give the rest a bad rep! I guess for many of them, ignorance is bliss!
I'm normally chilled too, calm and collected but I was starting to lose all sense of diplomacy via PM's
The thing that was bugging me the most was being spoken to like a child. I'm 27 not 5 :wall:

Anyhoo, back to your grow and LED's.... Most of the new stuff has arrived. Just waiting on some of my extraction stuff from Greens. The neighbours must be wondering what's going on with all of these deliveries! Most parcels I'm having to collect from next door because I'm out a lot with work... Hopefully they haven't caught onto anything lol!

All ducting is set up, and the rhino installed today. I'm trying to calculate grow space, but I'm unsure as to how close i can keep the QB's to the canopy during flower. I understand you can have them pretty close due to light spread which is good. Any advice on this?

@Mister_Green

it is a shame.

haha I hope they don't suss it too! I'd be praying for super stealthy wrapping  I've become a master of smuggling things past neighbours. 50l sacks of coco are the trickiest but ive found a rucksack i can put the whole thing in, jus gotta try n not fall over!

If the 5" extraction is too loud you could get away with turning it down maybe. Might be stealthier if you need it.

You can run the boards within inches if you keep em dimmed via the driver. I've forgotten your head height and things..Might be the weed! @NapalmD has a great example of this in one of his wicked diarys...somewhere in the led pages..called Megaforce grow or something similar (:

The Wac1 arrived in the post today. Still waiting on my order from greens!

My tent is only 160cm tall, with 30cm of that being taken up by pots. I can run the LED really high up if I place it off centre (slightly towards the front) as my CF is taking up a fair bit of room at the back.

So my usable space will be dictated by the ability to run the lights off centre and the required distance from the canopy.

If I dimmed the lights, it wouldn't be nearly as efficient though. My grow would suffer wouldn't it?

I'm fully able to deal with the space available via LST etc... I'm just unsure what my usable space really is when you take everything into account?

Killer garden @lukio and your pictures are amazing... there's something about the mix of blurple and white light that makes pictures look so nice... also you're clearly a great photographer. Subbed up and loving the show my man!

p.s. I am originally form the South East too, but expat now. cheers brother

sup! Had to google wac1, had no idea what that was! some of those speed controllers buzz and some dont, think it depends which type you buy.

ah yeah i remember now, you'll be fine man, these boards are really versatile.

heres a lil box of numbers to mooch

lm/w is a biggie! im not sure which driver you're getting but pretty sure that determines your Current. So my boards will run at 1050ma and produce around 194.6 lm/w. notice how the efficiency rises as drive current goes down? Thats great if your going to run your boards soft :)

Space...carbon filter is your biggest item in the tent i reckon? bit of shuffling, some sweat and some cursing and you'll work summin out!

have you thought about light schedule? runnin lights at night makes it easier to control lights off temps during the day in the uk. i run mine a night cause as soon as my tent drops below 23 the central heating comes on and we both know gas is pricey shit!
Just had an email from dhl...the 18th seems a while away :) need to pay duty.

Yo! Thanks very much, sir! Welcome aboard :)
i do like the mix of light, it definitely makes for nice pics, i'll grab some more at lights on. Ive got 6 more boards on their way to replace the hps...100% led has been a long wait!

Ah the South East! bloody all over Roll It Up we are! Somewhere in the tropics sounds just fine man :)

I purchased the Wac1 because it doesn't buzz, apparently it's one of the best controllers for smaller fans.. Seems like the Variacs baby brother.

I'm going to grab a Bud (the liquid kind) and stare at that chart until something makes sense LOL! I wish I could understand LED tech like you do!
I should be getting the Meanwell HLG-120H-54A. I have no idea what that is or means :dunce:

Running soft... is that in reference to power or colour? And I don't know the connection between running soft and how it's good for the efficiently 'thing' you said.

I feel like I'm about to dribble and my brain fall out my ear haha!

I could stick all my film lighting in there... reckon I've got enough lights to power a warehouse! LEDs seem so complex... I feel like a bit of a dummy!

Yeah the CF is the largest thing in there, I'm also running the extractor fan externally so that's not an issue. The ducting is the MOST ANNOYING object I've ever seen!!! Attaching accoustic is tough stuff!

I'll run the lights at night because If nothing else, my electric is cheaper at night.
Surely running at night though will be a problem in the summer on hot days as day time temps will be high, and night time temps will be 'artificially' high due to the lights. So there won't be much difference in night time/day time temps?

Man... I feel like I've just hijacked your thread a little! I'll shaddap soon :eyesmoke:

(: hahaa its cool man, its what forums are for. i remember doing exactly what youre doing but three yrs ago! Its nice to help this community grow :)

it still melts my fucking brain though! so dont be fooled - the real clever people are here but i'm not one of them :) i have to pop into uk420 for that ;)
Ive been loitering in the led thread for a few years slowwwwwwwly picking it up bit by bit. Techs changed, things have got a lot easier recently and its probably the only reason im able to slightly get my head round it...ish. Lap up growmau5 as much you can, he's such a valuable guy in this community. His old diy vids are a wicked start to get ya head round the numbers and basics, its slightly older tech but its good for gettin the gist of things. This vid was recent and is a really good overview of whats happened up until now. They are pretty baked! theyre great guys and both have had a huge impact on leds and this place. They both still use this place from time to time.

Heres the vid. its long but make time for it :)

:hump: yeah i hate the cf/ducting scenario too!! tis 2017, wtf is with that!? ha!

ive got the blue price plan so leccy is really cheap at night but i'll have up to 2200w in the flower tent soon so its really worth it.

Temps on/off you want 24/25 degrees all the time, as litttle fluctuation as possible and they will love you for it. it'll work well with lights on at night. i run my flower tent from 11pm til 11am to avoid the coldest times. Also made dealing with the hps heat easier. big temp swings also increase chances of bud rot in flower because of humidity. Environment is more important than anything else in my book, get that right with a good light and you will win! did you go coco or soil?

@lukio well as long as you don't mind helping then I'm all ears!
You are good at explaining things so don't knock yourself on that front.

That chart actually made sense instantly once I looked at it lol.
I'll check out some of Growmau5 vids over the next couple of days. I'm currently rendering a film project so I have nothing better to do with the billions of hours that'll take!
I have come across a few of his vids before.. the stuff he creates is insane!

Yeah ducting seems abit pre-millennium lol! Perhaps we should invent some sort of vacuum atomiser that can transfer matter via a cylinder rather than the good'ol pipe work! Dreams will be dreams

2200w?! How big is your grow space? I'll start calling you Snoop LOL.

Regarding the temps.. my logic was right then and it's a good thing.. yay!

Environment... you are right, It's the most important part. Basic needs and all that. Although it doesn't worry me so much as it's very user related. Easily rectified with the correct knowledge. It's the equipment that gives me the bigger headache :wall:

I went for soil in the end, as it's my first grow... the organics should self buffer my ph and my nutes will have a greater tolerance.
I may go coco after though once I've got a grow under my belt.

its all good dude. Ah man i have quite a few friends that do film, the 4k guys are always rendering! i'm all stills, dont think ive shot any film ever! i sometimes work for a stage that employs Gavin Thurston, One of the main Planet Earth guys - hes a top lad, got some crazy stories...pretty inspiring guy!

lol man we'd be billionaires if we could actually invent the vacuum atomizer!

Cool, temps and things are difficult to predict until its all up and going but sounds like youve thought about it. umm i flower in a 4x8 and veg in a 4x8 perpetually. Yeah 2200w if i turn all up which i dont think i will...ill probs sit it around 1500w

soil's all good, ive never grown in soil but pretty sure it works ;) i love coco but its all ive ever used, i also drip feed on timers cause i work away a fair bit, theres an ip camera also so i check it on my mobile when im abroad :) - it works a treat and stops me wondering if the feed pump is working!

This is them tnight at day 51. probs got another 2 weeks ishhhhh but not sure.

@lukio

Yeah 4K uncompressed is ridiculous. We do various projects where the clients request this. Needless to say, the processing doesn't happen on my iMac! It's outsourced.
I thought Gavin was a DOP?

Love the shot of the Grape god - everything is a photo opportunity!

Your grow is looking spectacular! I'm sure it'll have great dry weight and taste. Most importantly adding substance to the LED community!

You are running your wattage lower for greater efficiency, correct?
Looking at the the Driver I'm getting, it says 120w max output, HLG state it can be run at 130w... yet it's advertised at 135w. Which one do I believe lol?
It's concerning me now, because if it only goes to 120w then I'll only be running 30w per square foot.
What's the deal with this?
I'm guessing I'll have to run the driver at max load constantly, will this cause excessive wear?

You use an IP camera... basically it's a baby monitor isn't it :-P

Sup @Mister_Green

ive got Gavin down as an all rounder, not sure what his title is but films on this crazy remote camera he's built.

love shootin cannabis, when its lookin healthy anyway ha! its really photogenic.

umm drivers...You can turn them up a lil higher than they're labelled...im not sure why this is. So my drivers are "240w" on the label but go pretty close to 300w. Things get hot though, and when that happens efficiency drops...and we all like efficiency. So believe them both, man - worry not.
Buy a killa-watt plug so you can see how much juice theyre pulling from the wall and then adjust as you need via a screwy thing on the driver, thats the pwopa technical name and dont doubt it 8-) youll be turning yours down at the vey start when they are tiny, then up a bit n down again when the plants get closer to the light. You can download a lux meter on your phone and divide by 69 to reach the acquired ppfd...i'll try and explain that when it happens!

Dont stress, i think it sounds more complicated than it is.

man, i didnt do all this stuff on my first grow!! plug n hope is what i did. i failed.

Yeah weed cam ;) love it

super looking forward to the GrapeGod

Ha! I'll have a gander at his stuff if I can find it. What type of shoots do you do?
I think you should whack on an ND filter, set your exposure to 30/s with an f stop of 1.4 - 1.2... That would look dreamy! Unless the plants move to much.. turn the fan off lol!

Okay, so it's just finding that balance of efficiency x power... yet, at what point would you know that efficiency is less important than total lumens? Or do you just run it so that your ppfd is at its highest regardless of efficiency?
Am I saying that right? In my head its kind of like miles per gallon.. Driving at 50mph is more efficient, but driving at 70mph is more effective.
I realise I could be talking COMPLETE shit right now.. just bare with me lol!

I've found a kill-a-watt plug for about £15. Is that about right or is that a bag of balls?

You are right when you say it sounds more complicated than it is. Short term pain.. long term gain in my eyes though!

How did you fail on your first grow? Which number grownisnthis current one? Looks like you have it pretty well dialled in!

@Mister_Green i do extremely boring stuff 99% of the time, family portraits and things. it pays pretty well so i jus get on with it!
The sigma 20mm doesnt play well with filters...neither does that fish eye! got lots of filters for a 24mm. good excuse to use em :)

Haha i dont think its complete shit, that sounds about right! you want 500ish ppf in veg and 1000 tops in flower. i cant remember how many lux that is....maybe 70,000 for 1000ppfd i think. dont quote me!

15 quids good, i paid that i think.

i fried my first plants with shit leds haha.! 4yrs ago. Did 2 grows in my bedroom back then n stopped, started again last feb and havent really stopped since. so 6 crops maybe...i dunnoo its a bit hazy.

tis dialled ;) not gonna lie :)

Ah same! But the day to day jobs are the bread and butter!
What body/s do you use?

500 in veg.. means I can run lower wattage right?
1000 in flower, I guess that's going to be pretty much full power.. although once the plants are fully grown, I should reduce the power to avoid light burn.. is that what you meant when you said turning it down.. or were you referring to something else?
Surely turning it down will affect the bud yield though?

Is yours digital or analog.. the watt plug I mean.

Was it really the shit LED's or lack of knowledge? :bigjoint:

Do you grow constantly then? Where do you dry your buds? Or have you like various locations throughout the house?
