I'm smoking one right now. Okay maybe not a true hermie but this ladies got some seeds, lol.
Adds kind of a nutty flavor, lol.
I did chop her a little early and almost thought about tossing her when I first saw the seeds.

Glad I didn't. I seem to be gaining more "family" that needs meds, lol.
TBH, I almost always end up with a seed or two.
But this lady was loaded.

Seeded pot has three cannabinoids that unseeded doesn't.

Baby pot grower here, for personal medical (and recreational of course) use only. Today a chopped a mature afghan kush x skunk fem that looked female and had a pretty uneventful life. She reached just under 3 feet and the prelim buds I vaped are very potent. However she is chock full of seeds, especially on the lower buds, the upper colas don't appear to have any. I don't see any evidence of male flowers (but I'm a novice so that doesn't mean they aren't there) on her or the other 4 mixed variety plants I have in my 4x4 and not sure if the others are seed producing. I'm happy with the smoke I'm getting from this seeded plant, from reading this thread am I to understand all these seeds have a good chance of being fem copies of mom?

Possible.

I have some landrace sativa that do that. A few seeds in the lower buds.

Well I think if you've got a plant that selfed and produced hundreds of seeds then that's probably not what I would tend to keep in the stable so to speak. Would I kill it? Hell no, I'll take what I get but would not prolong the misery by growing it out again :). A few seeds in a plant is great but any more than a few would be the end of the line for that unstable bitch lol. Also how common are true hermies in marijuana? Would that not be a plant that had true male and female parts, producing male pollen and not the female pollen that we see?

Ive had plants where the pollen sacs were just on the lower buds before, as said it still smokes great.

May i suggest that you didnt notice or pull off the majority of pollen sacs which led to way more seeds.

This stuff happens and should mostly go away as you do more grows. If there was no male plants then seed should all be female (99.9% female). Plant them and you get more bud... :-)

I dont find selfing marijuana that bad, its genetics lends itself to it very well. Every year in the wild a small percentage of stock will be selfed but theres a greater diversity of genetic crosses in the wild than our bottlenecked seed banks and grow rooms.

I never sweated selfing but i did inject fresh genetics every few generations. Some weed is selfed in some situations commercially and naturally with very little documented bad effects.

I seem to veiw this plant and its genetics in a very positive way not negative, its hard to make unstable genetics and mutants even with radiation, selfing and herms.

First off, seeds are not a desirable traite for me. Yes wild stock does provide the diversity needed to strengthen the plant but if I have the capability to remove, from my personal grow, an unwanted traite, I do it. Again I hate seeds in my stash lol. I stop growing plants that have PM, I stop growing pot that is prone to bud rot here, and I stop growing pot that throws out "female" pollen unless I want it. I have the ability to change for the better (IMO) what I'm wanting and I do that but again a few seeds are not a problem for me.

"Weak genetics" (not that the "lineage" is weak, but that the particular plant fell into the "shallow" end of the gene pool), "hermaphrodite", call it what you want, but I did inadvertently stumble upon a way to identify vegging females that will grow nuts and/or spit 'nanner fingers in bloom. It first came to me when I witnessed the phenomenon in La Plata's "Durango OG" (DGOG). I tested my "theory" again on clones taken from the remaining DGOG's, again only expressed in the known "banana tosser" (kept clones of it for this very reason). Later tested on all vegging clones from strains where 1 of them grew nuts and/or spat fingers. Again, only the "banana tosser" from those respective strains exhibited this "unusual" trait in veg (1 "Sour Sunset" from Krockett and 1 "Sour Power" from Karma"). It's a very pronounce tell, can't be missed, or confused. Every strain in that "garden" (~30) was subjected to the "tests" at the same time. That includes 10 different phenos/crosses of Animal Cookies, all of my "clone only" (including "Mystery", she's a finicky gal, real picky, but she passed the test), and TSD 2.0 from TopDawg.

It isn't expressed through exposure to stress, per se, more of an "optical illusion".

Anyhow, the fact that I can definitively identify vegging plants that will go on to throw bananas in bloom tells me that this is genetic.

That was the point of the thread, to get real world experience not just that 'burn the hermie' stuff. What you and others have said portrays the whole hermie problem in a slightly more forgiving light :-)

Aren't you going to share your theory?

My theory on hermies is posted in many threads, its no secret and only a brief regurgitation of one of the main proposed theories by scientific academies that came to this conclusion after ruling out the rest.

Needless to say it is still one of those things that has thus far remained a mystery, there is only theory....

The "theory" is based on my inadvertent "discovery" that led to the "expirements", which confirms that my method of identifying "hermies" in veg is accurate, reliable, and repeatable.

The "theory" is irrelevant here. Regardless of whether or not my "theory" is correct, the method for "exposing" plants that will produce nuts and/or "banana fingers" within the bud has proven to produce the same results on the known "hermies" time, and time again (3 test runs so far).

I've got a decent number of packs to pop, more on the way. If this proves true beyond La Plata, Karma, and Krockett, I'll share with those I "know" (who ask) via PM.

I'll also drop this here now to aid in validity (when I verify further and share via PM); I have posted a vague reference to this prior (with pic). That post/pic will be referenced in the PM. It's worthless without method (unless one has inadvertently done the same and recognizes it).

I meant no disrespect using the word theory. You used it in your description of events above.

I really would like to know the method and discovery here if possible. I also am interested if any positive traits are lost with the culling of a too easily reversible plant.

I am not long in experience but in the 200 or so plants I have planted to harvest 1 or more per week for the last few years I have noticed that the plants I stressed to grow early or late stamen have been very potent stand out plants.

When I asked Mrs. MMG she also remembers plants that stressed me out with "hermies" like a specific Herijuana x Jack33 were very trippy and full.

Again I was sincerely interested in your work.

One theory goes that...

'The hermie trait is independant of sexual genetics and thus relies on a seperate protein hard wired into every plant and impossible to breed out.'

@MichiganMedGrower No disrespect taken. I wasn't responding to anyone in particular, just elaborating in case clarification was needed.

I want to test this out more, if I can. Going to need at least several more girls from as many breeders that drop nuts/spit fingers to aid in confirmation. Once that's been accomplished, I'll be comfortable in sharing with you and some of the "regulars".
