Still cycling. Only fish, without any nutrient additives. Yes, the ladies are suffering a bit. :(

~25 fish total, 12 Brookies, 13 Rainbow
Oh, wow- cold water fish? I ran my numbers here and could not figure out how to do it; plants want 60 and above, trout need 60 and below, very little margin for error there.

I'm considering a warm water system, running about 75f. Still learning, however.

Tell me more about yours?

Well, I like running a little colder water anyways, to slow down growth. It's currently running @ 61°, which is fine now, but summer is coming. The freezer I have, has 400 ft of 3/4in hose, and still not enough. I need a true chiller for sure. I'm sick of spending moneys on DIY stuff that doesn't work.

Yessir, I know exactly how that feels, so I'm going to give you a solid gold chiller recommendation; get the 2 Ton window mounted unit from Chillking. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it needs 240V. It's also the last chiller you will need. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars on chilling equipment of all descriptions, and I would save you a fortune and the heartache of losing your crops and fish due to equipment failure by pointing you to the right folks now.

When I tell you it's an abuse tested recommendation, you can rest assured I've beat on it!

Aqua-soil-aero hybrid prototype:

I started by cutting up old smart pots for the sides, and this fish filter for the bottom, as root can grow threw it with ease.2016-12-29 12.48.25.jpg

I have about 100 fish in there currently. I'll have a more up to date video soon.
That explains how green everything is.

Do you have an intermediate stage someplace where the ammonia gets reprocessed into nitrates?

Can you explain where and how this component works in your garden? It's the part that's the biggest mystery to me.
I'm not sure exactly where you caught up, but I'll give it a go.

My garden requires lots of bacterial matter to run properly. These bacteria are the reason for the nitrification process. This bacteria requires surface area to grow on, and K3 media, within the bio-filter, are designed specifically for the maximum about of surface space, along with moving around to maximize the contact with the most water.

As these bounce about dancing in the water, they hit each other and clean each other off, to give new area for more bacterial matter to grow. Newer bacteria is more effective in the nitrification process.

Is there a link to this type of bio filter? Thanks for the explanation!
