Advice on going cob build vs. second 315 lec.

Lec is not the right spectrum for flowering. That's what I'm trying to tell you.

Huh?? Ive seen some incredible flowers under lec and there seems to be a pretty large consensus that says otherwise as well. I know its lacking in the red a little, but I feel maybe your wrong on this one from all the research Ive done. It might not be the best, but to say its not right for flowering I think is pretty inaccurate. It might be "best" for vegging, but many people use it for both with excellent results.

Also, if I went with one of the kits from Timber, would I want all 3500k or maybe a 4000k or two as well? Say if I were to get the kit with 6, would you suggest I go all 3500k or maybe like 4 3500k and two 4000k or something like that?
Oh, and for the lec, Im using the 3100k bulb. Maybe you thought Im using the 4200k?

Airwalker - I just took a look at your build that you posted earlier. Very cool! With the Timber kits, would I need to still add fans? Or do you think their heatsinks will keep it cool enough without the need to add fans? I mean I Would need to plug it in and run it for a while to know for sure, but I wasn't sure if you have used them or know people who have used them.

I thought you were using the 4200k bulb. And I used 6 3500k & 2 4000k.
Making mine 1/4th 4000k. Yours would be 1/3rd. I'd do 2 3000k 6 3500k & 4 4000k.
Some will disagree, but I'm a fan of mixing CCT's.

Those heatsinks are made to be used passively, without fans. They're good up to i think 75 watts. Which would be 2100ma. They only ru 1400ma. I still think you'd be better off buying 3 hlg240h-c1750bs over the 2 1400's they give you.

I don't know enough to say whether mixing spectrums would be beneficial for my case or not, but I was also thinking 4 3500k amd 2 4000k. Cant really hurt right? The great thing about cobs is that I can always ad or subtract. If I wanted to ad more 3500k later, I can. Im sure I'd have excellent results either way though. Once I get through a grow with it, I can always decide where to go from there.

Hmmm well they do custom kits, so Ill see if I can swap out the 1400's for the 1750's. If not, theres still the option of building from the ground up. It seems pretty straight forward. You need the led's, a power supply (drivers), heatsink to dissipate heat, and a housing to mount everything to, and other things like reflectors of using, lenses if using. I know Im probably missing some stuff. wiring it all correctly is the part that Im not too familiar with. Otherwise its pretty much the same as building a pc and mounting your cpu to your heatsink/fan, connecting power supply(s)... All pretty basic. Once I start reading more into it Ill see which route Im gonna take. I want to watch some youtube vids on diy cob basics but my data is almost up for the month so... Trying to avoid overage charges lol. I just need to learn a bit more about the technical aspects before attempting a fully diy project. Im kind of an obsessive researcher.

And i think if you get one of the timber kits you will have an example of exactly how it is done in front of you. From there you can start custom building cob bars and feel much more comfortable. Thats my next purchase.
