If all your needs were met, what would you do with your life?

in stark contrast I would be seriously tempted to turn to evil and sin. just for shits and giggles more than willingly I'd actively seek deviance and immorality. no wait that's what i'm at now. lol. socrates flitted between one and the other on the regular I reckon.
Indeed. Long ago I resolved to never take the words of someone who chose suicide over justice at the hands of his peers without a grain of salt.

If that's the case, why so self destructive?
i dont see it that way, and we cant live forever..
i enjoy being high, so much so that i chose a career in drug design. very fulfilling to me, leading a couple projects (one right about to go to trials) . i have a 500 head (mostly angus) working ranch that fulfills a different aspect. im allowed to travel, do anything i want. money is not an issue, i have great friends, great women in my life. and i can take care of my family even extended . i can do things just because, like the western star i bought recently or the other house im fixin to buy

i couldn't imagine anything id enjoy more

Yet you brag about driving wasted to the point of wrecking your truck? I'm not here to bust your chops, I'm just pointing out that truly self actualized people don't put themselves or others at unnecessary risk. Those who do are generally unhappy with their lives.

I think many people feel this way. According to that hierarchy theory by Maslow, that's the highest level of personal enlightenment.

I have this book that touches on that a little bit, it's remained one of my favorite paragraphs since I read it;

"Although Socrates himself never claimed to have knowledge, he does appear to have held certain positive doctrines. Principal among these is the Socratic paradox, that no one willingly chooses to act immorally. On the face of it this appears clearly false. After all, there are all kinds of actions one recognizes as wrong but which one may choose to perform if one judges that they will bring benefit to oneself. For example, someone may choose to lie, cheat or steal if they believe they can get away with it and gain some advantage. Socrates, however, held that this betrays some confused thinking. For in acting immorally they actually harm their own character far more than they harm their victim. While they may succeed in stripping others of material possessions and other trappings of worldly accomplishment, genuine human happiness is a matter of inner harmony and self-mastery rather than material success. To come to this realization, however, requires some careful reflection on the true nature of virtue; reflection which will show, according to Socrates, that acting morally is the true route to personal flourishing. Hence another of his paradoxical claims, that virtue is knowledge, or, in other words, that if one truly knows what is good one cannot but choose to do it." -Philosophers: Extraordinary People Who Altered the Course of History, Nicola Chalton

Socrates also loved to have sex with really young boys, so I guess we'll take his advice on personal flourishing with a grain of salt ;)

not brag, bit it did happen and i spoke on it.. i can brag about how lucky i was, near a head on collision with another truck. and yes i went through some difficult times after my divorce. a very unhappy time for me.. i mean shit she was the first girl i had sex with, been together since i was a freshman in high school, id never imagined life without her. how it ended didnt help.. my family has always been maybe the most important thing to me. i didnt have a great childhood maybe that plays a role.

but a full 2 years later. not even that long imo, and i couldn't be happier.

and if youd read my posts from before the divorce, i couldnt have imagined a better life either. all in all imo im right where i want to be

Well I can't argue with that. Living and learning from one's mistakes is an essential part of the process. Goodness knows I've made plenty- so I consider myself to be an authority on the subject!

I'm going to live forever just to spite you. And myself, as well, apparently.

Perhaps selfishly, I would take care of my own needs before starting any philanthropic activities.

If I had more time and money, I would:

travel
dine at as many 2 star restaurants as I could find
read
improve my ukulele-playing skills (currently 2/10 ..)
play tennis
shower my missus with gifts (and then my semen obvs)
dance

Beyond that:
zero my family's financial commitments
make charitable contributions to environmental and animal welfare organizations

Nothin' wrong with that.

I'd start a record label and only sign bands I like. Produce our own records/merch, manage our own tours etc. Use the profits to help out homeless kids, ACS, NAPC, FNB and all those other cool acronyms. In my off time I would invest in a serious prescription drug habit, and teach myself to golf.

I'd rock out with our socks out. I mean, you can go all Dave Brockie and rock out with your cock out if that's how you roll.
