How much did you spend

So its safe to say about half the wattage of cobs equals maybe slightly less equivalent in final weight dried trimmed cured of hps whether open reflector single ended or even double ended? But less heat...less ac....even less electric bill?
i had one guy tell me tonight that 200 watts of cobs equals a 315 cmh or cmd bulb,, well i have never grown with a 315, but they say those are equal to 400 hid?,, if you asked me I would say no 200 watts of led cobs do not equal 400 hps,, but its not far behind, 300 watts surely is equal, but there are other advantages, back when I grew with 400 watt metal halides I had to replace the bulb ever crop, the time or 2 I did grow 2 crops per bulb , i could really tell it was much dimmer by the end, and I figured I lost money by trying to save money

So half wattage is close but two thirds is definitely there? And yeah i hear yas on oldschool halide bulb replacement. Maybe not every crop but every other. With hps mogul socket i used to do change outs every 3 or 4 runs. 6 to 8 months roughly. With double ended they say a year but with my digital foot candle meter (i know....not ideal but PAR meters are expensive as hell) i just did a bulb change out after almost 2 years worth of 60- 75 day crops.

I still have not equaled the size of the colas from back when I grew with 400 watt bulbs, they were much taller and thicker,, overall wieght,, back then I didnt weigh , but if i had to guess it was 12 ounces back then, my last grow under 200 watt led got me 8 oz dried

Back in my 400 watt hps days with the old P.L. Deep and Midi reflectors (state of thee art back then...and still are with double ended) i could and would pull 13 to 17 zips per with the right cut running 3x3 tables sea of green plantlet style in rockwool blocks and slabs non recovery drain to waste.

I hate to say it buy my bulb days were way back in the 80's,, in the garage in So cal, so gorilla, it was a cool box a cabinet maker helped me with it, but had never heard of scrog or sea of green, I dont even know if those things existed, and without the internet, we had no real connection with other growers,, it was such a secret society of small knit firends then

So 200 watts of cob 8 zips give or take sounds great esp if you take into consideration the less heat factor. And iam sure with the right cut and controlled sealed environment with all the fixins i could pull 9 or 10 zippers per 200 watts of cobness. Wow. Iam getting exciter...lol. I mean it too. This cob shit makes me say wow. Big time.

Hey over in the led grow section there is a guy by the name of captainmorgan he grows under 5 or 6 of the cobs like mine and he pulls 1 pound or better in a 3 x 3 tent, and we have watched him do it several times with many pictures, he is legit,, but he uses a soil hydro hybrid to grow in,, where as my last grow was just water only in soil,, with ffof soil

Oh yeah....you too? Lol. Sea of green was there but real info on it was limited. The Dutch called it plantlet method. Pioneered by the Super Sativa Seed Club. Scrog didnt get widely known till Overgrow.com. But iam sure it was used....just no web internet.

my next run will be with 4 cobs pulling 208 watts,, but I am going to grow in what they call a sip,, or wick, its a passive hydro ,, where there is organic soil on top but a water res below,, roots grow in soil above and water roots are allowed to grow into the res below

I remember my dad building my first grow cab in my grannys basement out of plywood and 2x4's. For a 175 watt halide and a Hydrofarm Emilys Garden. I stuck that lamp in there....for a test dry run.....shit was cooking at 95 degree. Lol. They didnt have inline exhausts fans back then. Just squirrel cage shaded pole blowers. I had to cut hole in the box fer that. Good times.

Iam 42...and ive spent coin on all the gear. Timer based co2 tanks that didnt do shit in a vented room (sealed c.e.a. rooms were unheard of). Me and my small group swore we saw a difference...lol. We were just exhausting all that expensive co2. I had the Hydrofarm Quantum 4 tray rockwool drip. Superior Growers Supply out of east lansing michigan was the only shop in the state. Used to go there in other non grower friends cars because of license plate checks in the parking lot from law dogs. We were noid as fuk back then. If you ran more than one or two 1000 watters yoh were big time. Lol

If I pull half a pound from every 200W module I'm running, I'll have a forest of two pound trees... which is exactly what I'm aiming for!

I discovered SCRoG tech on my own, only instead of using a net, I used loops of jute twine to hold the branches down, duct taped to the side of the pot! This was in 1988-90. It worked fuckin boss with my HPS thouie on a home built light rotator...

Yeah, I've been tinkering with grow tech for a long time.

I subscribed to Monstergardens youtube channel. They broke it down on ceramic halides. I think they said the 315's had a smaller footprint or suugested it compared to what growers wanted to run them at but they kicked ass and were really nice combined with hps lamps. Correct me if iam wrong and iam getting very excited. Tty....you seem to be the man here at riu with cmh and cobs. And soon iam fixin to pick yer brain my homie...that is if you dont mind my questions.
Happy to help any way I can.

And who remebers the "Pot for Pennies" diy article in High Times with the flood amd drain 2 liter soda pop bottle set up plumbed together with PVC pipe? Lol. I built that monstrosity and it was a pure headache running it.

I also remember High Times article on the first diy "vaporizer" dealy with the heating element that was impossible to acquire and build. But vaporizing weed they explained in detail the advantages.....years....no decades before stoners caught on.
