It's how I learned to grow. Having learned in one, my advice is to grow out of it as soon as possible.

Well we'll see how it goes...this is my first run ever so i guess I'll see how it turns out...like i said it was given to me and it dont hardly cost anything to run...ive seen a lot of cfl grows turn out descent so i dont see how this thing could be any worse...just curious what were your issues with it? Why didn't you like it?

What do I think???
I think the guy asking "what's a phototron" is TOO YOUNG TO BE GROWING CANNABIS.

I'm definitely getting too old.

Pics look good. Way to rock out an old school setup. Nothing wrong with it. Replace the bulbs as needed to keep it effective. Keep on keeping on.
Do u know if i have to replace the bulbs every run or what? These bulbs were already in it when it was given to me so i have no idea how many miles they got on em

Hi Bgdog30, I just ran across your Phototron thread and I agree, whatever you are doing keep doing it; everything looks great from here. I have a Tron too. It wasn't free, $100.00 and a five hour road trip one way, but I am glad that I have one. Per you question: How often to replace the lights, if they are new bulbs then run them for three runs and check them to see if the color or intensity has changed. If not, run them for one more run. If not, take a look at HTG's website. They have bulbs that should fit your Tron that are made specifically for your Tron. I have a model that has pll or biax lights. They look like two fluorescents that have been welded at the top and join at the bottom that are connected with a four pin socket. It only has one top bulb though. Here are some pics of my current project. This is a Alien X Triangle that has been in flushing for a week now and hopefully ready for harvest within the week. I am not trying to invade your thread, just trying to give you an idea of what to expect. This is my inaugural grow too, so I am not very well versed in other growing methods concerning a Tron but if you dig around on the web obviously you should be able to find whatever you are looking for.

There is another member in this community of growers that did a thread on a Sour Cherry that she grew in a Tron that may be able to give you some advice if you need it. She had great luck with hers and swore by it. Anyway, sorry I have a tendency to babble, nice grow.

Best of luck to you

Hey man that looks awesome...im glad im not the only one with a tron...all i read is negativity about these things but obviously from the looks of your pics they can definitely do the job...that gives me hope...it looks to me like we mite have the same model or something close...those are the same bulbs i have I believe....i aso see u went with soil which is what i did also....my biggest problems so far is heat and i think that's mainly because i have it in a closet...i think if it was in an open room it would be no problem at all...mine came with two small pc fans already on it and i modified it and i have a bathroom exhaust fan on top of it pulling air out that goes straight up into my attic...i also cut a hole in one of the side panels and added a five inch fan that i robbed out of an old space heater that i have hooked to a thermostat to kick on when the temps start getting up there...most of the time it runs low 80's in there but for some reason the last couple hours of light cycle it gets up to about 84-85 which i dont realy like but it doesn't seem to be hurting anything yet...i do currently run lights during the day but im switching that so they come on at night so id imagine that will help my temps out atleast a little bit..my other problem is keeping leaves from touching the bulbs but ive learned to just tie them back or say hell with it and just snip snip lol... Ill post a few pics of my setup but your plant looks amazing I wish mine looked that good...of course im only in 4th week of 12/12 so i mite catch up lol

I have mine in a 3x3x6.5 tent with a 6" fan and 24" scrubber. I run The Tron at night so, yes, it probably would help with your temps. It surprises me that you have temp issues with a fan that extracts heat from your closet; I don't think that that is supposed to happen; especially considering that you have fans that are built into The Tron. As far as the leaves and buds touching the lights, all you can really do is tie them back. I have read that a little burn isn't too bad for these plants, in fact, it may help. By burning the leaf tips and bud tips, only a little bit, actually helps. It's like giving cattle a light shock to get them to move or pose in a certain position for showing; the burn actually assists with the growing process. If I get brave enough, I might post a vid of my setup to give you an idea of what I have going.
