Are philips ballast, better, then workhorse. Just rebuilt my t5 setup. As I bought parts when I had money. $80 on ballast, $ 15 on sockits, lights where free.
Philips advance centium ballast last longer in commercial applications. you may also consider these https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/91989/PLUSRITE-7319.html.they have a good reputation in commercial applications and a higher ballast factor than fulham ballast. I use them myself 55 watt 2G11 CFLs in a 2ft by 2ft by 8ft closet and am very happy with them. fulham ballast have shown a higher premature failure rate in commercial buildings.I have used Philips ballast but find the plusrite ballast to to be a little more effiecient and very reliable

Crap science to take advantage of those who drank the RB Kool-Aid

Plants need a full spectrum to express their full potential

Eliminating the non RB WILL cause MUTATIONS

Don't believe me? Spend some time in the DIY COB section
I think these bulbs like many aquarium plant growth bulbs are intended to be used with cool white (6500K) bulbs which would provide full spectrum coverage.when used in conjunction with cool white bulbs these "purple bulbs" show a little better performance in flowering than the conventional 6500K/3000K flowering mix.the improvement is very small and the par bulbs are much more expensive

I made a post a while back saying that t5s last for 20,000 hours and was corrected. I now see for myself that two of my eight bulbs burnt out after six months. however this was after 2 weeks of a fan being pointed at them. never point a fan at the t5s they will burn out. I corrected the problem and no more have gone out so far
my bulbs are 2 years old running 12/12 continuously and still going strong.my light meter shows the output is still over 90% of new bulbs. but I use commercial bulbs and not bulbs from the hydro or aquarium shops which may be low quality bulbs that are repackaged and sold for a premium price.high quality commercial grade bulbs are inexpensive ad can last 20,000 hours

Just posting on this thread to join the T5 club, and start following this thread.

Day 4 of 12/12. This photo shows one side of the wardrobe flower room. Enough space for 2 happy OG Kush under a 2' four bulb T5, plus six 23w CFLs to supplement their tan.

Hello everyone. I have 2 bubblicious from nirvana seeds. I started them in 1 gallon pots. I have them under a 26 w 6500k bulb each. They will be 2 weeks old tomorrow. So how do they look for 2 weeks old? And should I put them under my 2ft x 4bulb T5 light now or wait alittle longer? How close should the T5 light be from the plants? any help would be great. Happy Holidays.IMG_20151222_153249.jpg IMG_20151222_153307.jpg IMG_20151222_153341.jpg IMG_20151222_153429.jpg

They look great man. As far as I'm concerned I'd put them right under that 4 bulb. I have a 6 bulb t5 for veg and a 8 bulb for flower. Both have toggles for switching different light combos off and on, so for the first couple weeks I run the 6 bulb with only 4 bulbs on. As for height, When i first started out with t5's everyone said to put them as close as you can due to the low heat levels. I have found that keeping them that close causes heat stress and low air circulation causing fox-tails on most buds. After much trail and error I have found 5 inches from top canopy to be the ideal height. Good luck and keep the pics coming. Couple of mine below.

I'm having trouble finding information on T5 HO ballast wiring. I have a Sun System 8 bulb fixture. 2 bulbs went out and I was looking at the ballast wiring to see if there was anything I could do. I work in factory maintenance so I have wired many ballast. This set-up is different than any I have seen. They have used BallastWise and DuroPower ballast together as a unit to power 4 bulbs. Each one is wired to 2 bulbs. All of the lights I've worked with only had 1 ballast for 4 bulbs. I'm having trouble finding exact replacements for these ballasts. I was wondering if this set-up is because of the high output bulbs? Would I be able to use any T5 ballast the controls 4 T5 54 watt bulbs?

Hello everyone. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays. I have 2 bubblicious seedlings from nirvana seeds going. They are both 2 weeks old. I have them in soil in 1 gallon pots. I have had them under the light 20/4. I was wanting to know if its better to keep them 20/4 or try the gas latern system which would be 12 on - 5 1/2 off - 1 on - 5 1/2 off. Which light schedule would be best? Thanks for the help.

I personally woukd have started the plants under the 4ft t5 light. Get them under the veg light as soon as the have a good tap root and 2nd set of leafs.

Currently stuck with T8's. Cant find the ballast at homedepot or lowes yet. Its like nowhere seels em but online and for 150the a piece, i could get a 400piece watt hps online for that price
I'm right there with ya, but I've been running T-12s They are like a $10-12 bad habit. I'm running a 1000 MH. It's winter now so I'm O.K. but by spring I will be vegging under T-5s in this box.I plan to do some budding as well. Have seen some amazing results from others with T-5s. This will be a fun thread.

I wonder if there is a group like A.A. to help wean me off the T-12s?

So, a question for those of you who flower with T5s. Are you using supplemental lighting as well? I see my two foot, 4 bulb light probably puts out 8-10,000 lumens at the most. That's just not enough for 5.5 sq ft of coverage, so I added 6 cfls for supplemental light (an additional 10,000 lumen), and I feel like even that isn't enough.

Thoughts?

^^^^ very nice.
Well im out, switching clubs and ordered a 600w hps. T5 will still be in my grows as clone seedling and veg lighting. Flowering duties will now be taken over by the 600w.
