Hello! Long time since I've been active at this forum!
I'm looking at adding some COBs to my current grow tent. Right now I have two custom LED lights (about 80 w and 30 w) that I made a few years back, this was before the dawn of COBs apparently :) anyway, I'm pulling about 100g per harvest from two plants, which is quite fine for me. However I've been feeling the itch to expand at see how far I can push it.

My tent is 90x90 cm and I have a hydro setup for 4 plants in there. I've been considering adding 4 Vero 29's in there, however all drivers I've seen posted here are either quite expensive to get here in the Nordic countries.
I know I would lose efficiency compared to brand drivers, but would it be possible to use this driver:

the 50w driver at a rated voltage of 20-39v and 1500mA
according to the data sheet of the vero 29 the voltage at that current should be around 37.

So basically there shouldn't be any reason that this driver doesnt work, right?

Sorry for the rant, I haven't had an actual conversation yet today. Cheers!

Yea, that driver should work fine. I can't see how efficient it is, do you know?
I also use generic drivers for 4 CXB 3590 3000k and they're at 87%. These are probably in the same range...

Hey man! Thanks for the answer! I was sure there must be someone here using generics :b I've just scoured so many pages already I thought I'd better ask :)

I guess I'll be buying some drivers and such now then! :D

Sorry for so many questions but does each Led need a driver or can you drive off the same driver off a higher wattage? and if the led is 80 watts what size driver would you need for two or three vero 29's

The power of the driver depends on the current. so for 2.1 amps you need a driver than can give 80 watts. 2100mA constant current and voltage range around 37.5V
parallel and series connections of multiple cobs on a single driver is possible
upload_2015-12-8_17-2-1.png

for 80 watts each 3x vero 29 you need Meanwell HLG-240H-C2100 if you connect all 3 in series. (recommended)
HLG-240H-42 if you connect all 3 in parallel. (if 1 cob fails its Current will split between other cobs)

Thanks, i dont plan on filling that space as i will have fans and an carbon filter in there too.Plant will be around 45cm by 45cm scrog, bubbler but still wondering if i should even go ahead with it as i have a room mate and im renting.
To control the odor, you cannot recirculate the carbon filter air. It has to exit outside. Hope you can figure that out on your rental.

Thanks for the help it s appreciated. Yes the air going out is no problem. im just not sure how many of these i need for that space, even at 50cm by 90 cm if use that whole space ,also how hot it will get. My fan and filter was for a 600 watt vertical i had years ago so will be overpowered for the heat and humidity of an led grow i think however i dont want the filter going all the time. Just a few times a day.

Im thinking buy three and see how i go, i might use two leds i might use three.

This was probably asked already, but i was looking to get the Kind k5 750w for my 4x4 tent. What do you think? There supposed to be the shit, but i never seen them grow anything... even on youtube.
Funny how you never see a Grow journal or anything on them. #1 kind and no grows????? I'd look elsewhere. Lots better options out there for your dollars.

Be nice he was just asking. You know who I am the DIY guy and I'll show him how to make a light if he ask for free. Of course he has to pay for the parts lol.

how many cxb would i need to get 1000 watt of electricity running at max power

by max power i meant most efficient or i'm not 1000% sure how cobs work but i know people run it at different efficiency. so i want max power but don't want to ruin the system.

what you think best led kelvin range for faster flowering is? 3000k or higher like the 5000k? metal halide's seem to get better trichomes but flower longer with smaller yeilds but im not ure with LEDs

1000 hps equivalent ?
