"Mr. Cody said he was born in Oklahoma territory to a father, Thomas Long Plume, who was a Cherokee Indian, and a mother, Frances Salpet, who was Cree. His father performed in Wild West shows and circuses.

Although the television and movie-viewing public generally think of Mr. Cody as an American Indian, his heritage was questioned in 1996 by The New Orleans Times-Picayune, which reported, based on an interview with a half sister, May Abshire, and baptismal records and other documentation, that Mr. Cody was a second-generation Italian-American from Louisiana.

Mr. Cody denied that report."

Early life
Cody was born Espera Oscar de Corti on April 3, 1904, in Kaplan in Vermilion Parish, in southwestern Louisiana, a second son of Antonio de Corti and his wife, Francesca Salpietra, immigrants from Sicily. He had two brothers, Joseph and Frank, and a sister, Victoria. His parents had a local grocery store in Gueydan, Louisiana, where he grew up. His father left the family and moved to Texas, where he took the name Tony Corti. His mother married Alton Abshire and had five more children with him.

When the three de Corti brothers were teenagers, they joined their father in Texas and shortened their last name to Corti. They moved on to California, where they were acting in movies, and changed their surname to Cody. Joseph William and Frank Henry Cody worked as extras, then moved on to other work. Frank was killed by a hit-and-run driver in 1949. The boys' father, Tony Corti, died in Texas in 1924

I'll be straight up here most Natives scream for there rights or what has been taken away from them,, I agree they have not been treated fair in the past. So have many other cultures for example Jews , Muslims , Sunnis etc
But today's Natives you know the One's protected by political correctness under a skewed shield of human rights. are not moving forward. in fact there using the system to get paid for free,
You see it all the time , they talk about the culture yet only the elders speak the native tongue ,, many of the younger generation of natives cannot not Yet they scream for there heritage or racism or what ever else they can muster up ..
I see there are some natives here ??? can anyone here actually speak fluent native tongue ??? i bet not ..not talking a few words i am taking full native tongue ..
Its Ironic isn't it that most younger natives are caught up in the meth , crack, criminal activity Gangs, etc.. To form them into a natural burden to society, eventually the native heritage will be lost this generation and again the white will be blamed ..
I am all for heritage of all cultures its needed and its very important .. but how is the native culture to survive when the young do not even care about it ,

I don't have any native american in my blood but I have a lot of respect for them. Im not trying to be disrespectful but when I smoke some great dank I feel like doing a native american dance! I wish I could have shared a piece pipe with a tribe and lived like them for a day or 2.

After everyone finally succeeds in destroying civilization and the largest fraction of people have killed each other off trying to survive, it'll be like it was before the Europeans showed up except there'll be a lot more trash, debris, and toxic wastes, and a lot fewer trees. I guess it'll all go down as a successful experiment in fucking shit up..
