Well anytime a plant is actually on fire I suppose it is a good idea to defoliate it. Normally I don,t think it is beneficial. Selective pruning is another story.
As far as flushing goes. Emergency last resort to a problem.Under normal circumstances not necissary.

I only flush because it floods my plants with the snowstorm and then that's why I flush em at the end to get out all the extra k

I always say leaves power bud production.
A friend of mine that grows on 41 acres in Mendo instructs his crew to strip off all the
big fan leaves just before flowering because 1 week after stripping this causes all the smaller growth to grow at a much faster rate and get much bigger thus a much bigger yield. He runs several hundred plants at a time.
