TheConstantGardner Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2007 #2 halogens use a lot of their energy in producing heat. CFLs would be a better, not to mention cheap, way of growing a seedling. They don't produce as much heat and can be placed 1"-2" (depending on wattage) away from a seedling without burning it.
