We just had a defoliating thread. Thankfully it died.

I think you'll find it was actually killed.

I felt that post was a little set up to start a discussion on defoliation, as is this one! I don't think newbie central is the place to have that discussion as it can get a little heated at times!

I read your blog post about trimming mothers. You state that mothers must be from seed because clones don't have tap roots. Can you explain please, because I've been doing it wrong... Also, that's a terrifically random lesson to start with in pedagogical terms. You could start with seedling management or an overview of the grow cycle or lighting, mediums, hydro vs. soil, etc.

Was it really killed? I'm bummed. It was a popular thread and even though it was a powder keg people kept the language to a minimum and behaved themselves for the most part so I thought it was all in good fun. Newb central can get a little monotonous and boring at times. Your thoughts?

Jesus dude I had to look up some of those words. At any rate I think you have a good point and perhaps the good Doctor would enlighten us on those topics as I also am very interested. I'm always the student.

I like that. Sorry I'll be on tonight, busy day.

Hey Shnkrm, the program we are putting together does address those in the beginning. I totally agree with you on that.

My name is actually Dutch, first noted in 1644 in Amsterdam. It was spelt Teerpenning and it was a give surname to the tax collector. The name in full still exists in Amsterdam. As my ancestors came to America in the late 1600's and early 1700's the name was Americanized several times to my final name Terpen. I just got luck with the closeness to Terpenes and my profession.

As I stated in the linked thread: "So if you have a degree in botany, why would you post such a sophisticated growing technique in the "newbie" section?
Perhaps this thread would have been more appropriate and accepted in the “Advance marijuana Cultivation” section, where the highly skilled members reside
."
IMHO, the Newbie section should be for the newbie's, and the advise given to our newbie's ought to be the fundamentals, not the advanced concepts.
I believe this thread would have been better suited in the advanced section where these non-standard concepts can be debated with the likes of Uncle Ben
Dr. Jekyll

That thread was closed by Widow Maker, as he felt it had become "off topic", personally I thought it was a excellent barn burner with plenty of carnage, we need threads like that

I went shopping with my wife tonight and look what I found!

It's an old HID stadium light. I'm going to retrofit it for a CFL and make a desk lamp out of it. I'll keep you posted. Have a good night new riu friends and I'll be back tomorrow.

it's pretty cool doc. Turn it upside down and it'd make a nifty commode. U have a nice w/e too. Can u give a little sermon about soil biology for our newb students (and me) So many ppl only give importance to the stuff that grows above ground that they can see and not so much to the magic that happens beneath the surface. It'd make for an interesting thread and if it is thorough enough I'll even sticky it. Think about it. Thx.

I found it interesting for all kinds of reasons, who would have thought that pulling a few leaves off could cause such a reaction? Anyway I don't want to hijack this thread and start the discussion all over again!

Feel free to start another if you like. Long as ppl behave I'll do my best to keep it open. Hey why do all threads have to be about serious topics? And why can't some subjects cause heated debates? Just because it's a hot issue doesnt mean it should be avoided. For me anyway, it was about entertainment in the same way TNT is entertaining.

Ideally we are all trying to be mother nature, and in most cases we try to be better. We can bring to the table five soil mixes from five different grows, all composed, processed and engineered differently. All five mixes may obtain all key nutritional properties for the cannabis plant and yet all five can be built with enormously different fibers. The point is weather it's soil, light, or extremely advanced techniques like triggering Auxin production; we are here to learn, teach, debate and fine tune our skills.

I will learn until the day I die, some of which will be total bullshit. I came here to find like minded thinkers and share, learn and enjoy myself. I think we can all agree that there is no perfect way or formula to grow cannabis, if so there would be no reason for any further discussion.

To the point, correctly categorized Topics are on their way.

still waiting for any kind of lesson prof. People keep asking advanced questions and you seem to keep ducking them.

I think we are dealing with another wanna-be master of growing MJ

Always amazes me when a newbie posts like he's some kind of master grower.

personally I call BS on this thread, as his linked website is very amateur and has very little substance, much like his posts on this thread

Actually I just started both this account and the blog. Good detective work Spanky. I see you've been lied to a lot in your life and lash out as a protective mechanism. It'll all be okay bro, I won't share your weaknesses with an of my fellow fish. Wait you already did that. For the record I could care less about your comment, I'm not looking for approval. Your mom gave me all I need.

Not creating a mother plant from a clone: Clones do not develop a taproot, only what is generally referred to as fiberous root. Difference Spanky? Taproots grow down, (kind of what you seem to be doing, adults don't lash out for no reason) and fiberous roots grow out. The taproot is, in my mind, and a few other idiots minds out there; first the anchor and is mostly believed to aid in mostly vegetative growth. Kind of like your parents should have anchored you down and contributed more to your childhood manners. A mother plant or what I call my sexy mama's spends her entire life growing in only the veg state. Reason stands that to have the healthiest mother plant you would want to give her the best equipment right?

Back to my point, turning a clone into a mother plant is not a good idea. I don't consider this very advanced subject but I did use easy words for you and I spoke slowly and clearly when I typed. If you need a glossary for any of the terms I used I'll be happy to send you one.

...

Bet your all hopped up now you stain. Next time you decide to belittle a stranger and call them out make sure their not smarter than you. And according to your mom when I was "teaching" her the difference between a pistillate and a staminate you shouldn't be belittling anyone. Now get mad, report me as a bad guy like the rat fink you are, type something that makes you sound super cool and tough. Then go wrap some soft wet paper towel around your one nut and sit in a warm dark place for 3 days. Maybe with your expertise you can grow another nut.

Hey nice meeting you and look forward to see you cry words, try the defense that I'm over compensating and feel threatened by your many post and omniscient knowledge sprinkled with that witty charm only Spanky could pull of.

Imagine that,
A professor with no class.
What if his mother passed recently?
You Sir are a monster!
Now if you will excuse me I have to
figure out how to reattach a tap root.
