maybe, but it is the proverbial foot in the door to full on legalization....and there are undoubtedly medical benefits so there is that.
Whereas my stance as someone outside of the US is that it is this foot in the door which is showing other countries just why not to legalize for medical reasons, the US MMJ system is a joke and it is hurting those elsewhere who truly need it. The US has shown that mmj is completely nonviable unless strictly controlled by the state. "oh, i can't sleep, i need a card doctor", it's just an offensive system for those of us who truly need it. One would have thought that if it's the foot in the door, then people would have been mature about the new freedom, instead of just exploiting it at every step. Doesn't fill you with much confidence for how people would treat a full legalization with regard to maturity over taxes and such. Even supposed caregivers generally couldn't give to damns about the medical side of why they are growing so many plants, they jut want to make as much money as humanly possible.

it is a joke I agree. Everyone wants their piece of the pie...that's capitalism for you.

Either way I would rather see some of the wealth created from this industry passed back into average citizens hands than those of big pharma...would you agree?

this is where we are headed btw. Full on legalization will probably never happen here. IDC what two states have done or how many others are contemplating this. There is entirely too much money to be made off the current system of punishment. If our economy keeps going in the tank like it is....maybe we have a chance

but i'm sure our gov't yahoos will fuck it all up if possible

Short term benefit for long term harm. Not for me thanks. For instance one could argue that because of the manner in which the public have taken on the new freedom of mmj, that is to say exploiting it at every corner, the government would very well consider that the only option if there was full legalization would be to grant license only to the big guys and continue to crack down on the little guys so as to keep their tax revenues up. As it is people are using mmj to fund their lives at the cost of a full time job and as such full time taxes. You guys have pissed on the olive branch you got given and it's only going to bite you in the ass should the govt want to expand the cannabis legalization. what ever happens in the future with regard to big pharma etc growing the weed, it's the MMJ card holders who are jointly responsible for this.

my whole problem with mmj is a few key points for me.. one of which tip top touched on..
i'd never say cannabis doesn't help the sick as that's simply stupid, and anyone with half a brain can see that is not true.. my problem is how many previous stoners only got "sick" once they found out weed cures what ever ailed them?? i'd say lots and lots.. in california you can have pretty much any other reason to get a card, which is a huge joke.. the public also sees this, non smokers, and they look at mmj as the farce that i see it.. suddenly people who wer stoners last year are now patients and they don't smoke, they medicate, as if they're fooling anyone but themselves with these terms..
secondly, i don't think that mmj is doing any good for full on legalization.. if all they fight for is medical, cannabis might become medicine only, and big pharma will step in with their version of cannabis, like the sativex, and cannabis itself will no longer be considered a medicine, you've got sativex, or you've got nothing..

lastly, i just don't like the attitudes some medical patients seem to have towards the non medical crowd.. they're going to dispensaries, and we have to go to a drug dealer to get the same exact product.. they medicate, i'm a pot head.. they medicate, and i smoke weed.. they can go into a dispensary and buy 40 different grade a strains, hash and cookies, and sure, throw in some clones, and i have to watch over my shoulder as i score a bag on the corner, not really, but you know what i'm saying.. they can some what legally grow so many plants, hold so many oz's at one time, trade hash, bud and clones with friends, err, i mean, patients, silly me, etc, etc etc...
am i jealous of mmj patients and all they have access to?? i don' think so, and even if my state had a mmj program that didn't require one to be on their death beds in order to qualify, i'd like to think that i'd have integrity enough not to suddenly get sick and now need to smoke my medication..

end of rant.. i just don't enjoy the divisiveness that i feel the mmj program brings into the cannabis world as a lot of times it feels like it's us, the stoners, vs them, the patients, who mind you, most of the time, were stoners right up until 1996 or so..
i'll shut up now..

Um, it's not the same product RB.

Dispensaries sell medical grade cannabis, not your street bunk! "medical grade", that pisses me off lots, such a stupid argument or statement to try and make. Ditch weed is medical grade cannabis if it does something for someone somewhere.

No reason to shut up, I'm with you.

I know exactly what you mean though racer, it really just needs to be legally regulated on a federal level just like alcohol. We all need to be treated equal but some of the patients, I mean pot heads, er users of cannabis don't see it the same way we do. To them we are just the scum of the earth and they are better then use because they MEDICATE.

Blah blah, moral of this is the prohibition needs to end and be treated as equals.

I can dream right....

are you kidding? this has always been the gov't plan

it's all about the money man. always has been. and as far as us pissing on the olive branch...come on dude. you don't know much about the way this country works.

it's all special interest groups lobbying for themselves..and when it comes to the medical end, big pharma is the largest player.

this is where we are heading...doesn't matter what average citizens do. So they may as well grab their piece of the pie while they can...before being forced back underground
