Leaf Clone

I read about this somewhere, and decided to give it a go. I wasn't expecting it to work, but this morning on visiting the clones I decided to check the leaf one. There is no root coming out of the bottom of the cube, and I was half deciding on throwing it away anyway, so I pulled it out to take a look. There is some very fine root development... I've put it back in now.

Still don't know what is going to happen... anyone have any experience of this?

am i to understand you are cloning a leaf? now that my friend is "outside the box". keep it up and keep us posted.

yes... a leaf. I read about it in a general gardening article somewhere, and thought I'd give it a go with cannabis. I hope that pulling it out hasn't ruined it... but there is definitely signs of root forming. If this one dies I'll try it again.

Still, it'd be nice to know if anyone else has done this... maybe then I wouldn't need to waste my time.

Since there wasnt a flower top would you have to cut the leaf off once there were roots showing but leave a little bit of stem left that way a flowre would develop from there or am i just pissing in the wind?

i can fully believe in the leaf rooting. its part of the plant. i've pulled unrooted clones and then put them back in but i always redip them in gel.

if it root where is the stalk going to form? that is the question. i seen new growth pop out the side of otherwise bare stalks but it was always at a stem site that had been triimed.

i love experiments.

Well, i am waitng on my branches, so while i do that, i will try this too, and satisfy knowm's pic fetish!

I'll upload some pic's later... still need to work out how to put pic's on a post. All it's going to be at the moment is a leaf, with slightly yellowing tips, hanging out of a rockwool cube. I'd much rather wait for it to take root, which I think the yellowing tips is a good indication of.

there is a paperclip icon next to the happy face on the tool bar where you type these replies. click on it to upload photos. then when you choose your photo make sure you upload it. it took me a couple times to notice the upload button. i just kept closing the window.

or type out your message then scroll down on the text entry page, where you see a button that says manage attachments, that way is quite easy.

I would think that if a plant can start off its tiny seed pod then a whole leafe should be enough to get it going.
I too am curious as to where new growth is to start.

Common sense tells me it should work, although never tried by me [but, I just might]. I've seen it done with outdoor garden plants successfully. By all means, keep us posted on your efforts.

Also, I am growing in a new medium of rockwool and perlite... hand watering. How good is rockwool at holding onto water?

I've just transplanted a clone into this medium, and I'm extremely worried. I'm using colour as a ph guide, which is a nightmare. Particularly when different guides are telling me different things. Anyone have a pic' of what colour 5.5 is? How strict is the 5.5 rule in rockwool? I've read that there isn't much forgiveness with the ph.

tonight i just planted my leaf clones....i am also trying to root a leaf. i heard you could do it...so i am giving it a go. im glad i found this post, and someone else is trying it.
has anyone heard of a succesful leaf grow???

well after... so many days. There is no actual growth coming from the leaf. It's stem has pushed away from the rockwool maybe a couple of mil', but that's about it. So, even if it does work it isn't worth the time it takes.

I've taken another leaf cutting, this one a little different. It has a stalk, a leaf and one tiny bud, no other growth whatsoever, it's rooted right now, I'll get a pic' of it up later.

I'll add my sad story about cloning a leaf. My first grow was hilarius and some day I'll tell about. Bag seeds all 5 of which turned out female. Four of them were satavias and just kept growing so I cloned somo of those. The other little sob never seemed to get taller. I Had it propped on a 5 gallon bucket with a 3 gallon pot on top of it to get it up to the light and it just didn't grow. I finally decided that since it didn't have many branches I would try to clone some leaves. I put 5 of them in rockwool cubes and waited a little over three weeks and didn't see any progress. So i turned off the light.
When I harvested that little sob it was almost like crystal. I kept the stem to remind me, you can clone after flowering it just takes longer. When I took apart the rockwool around those dead leaves every one had rooted, but I turned off the lights and killed them. That plant yeilde a litlle over 2oz and I don't have a clone . Yep you can clone a leaf it just takes longer.

Also it won't grow. It'll develop root but no upward growth. I've had mine potted for over a week and there is no sign of any new shoots sprouting up. i mean what's the point in a rooted leaf?
