2 led ufos for $1200

I just orderd two ufo's for $1200. I cant imagine the money I will save in a month. It will give me another foot of space at the top of my cabinet, and no more loud fans to cool cab. Ordered from HID Hutt! Its expensive, but should pay for itself in a couple of months, plus it seems so stealthy. No ballast, no fan, no reflector, should cut cost to 75%. They say The 1 watt led is one of the most efficient light sources in the world...one light for all phases of plant growth. Can anybody tell me things they have heard about the LED UFO?

I havent heard much about LED UFO, but in general I have heard alot of negative talk about LEDS.

You should deffently start a grow journal, so we can see how good they work, clear up alot of confusion about them.

How many watts are they?

i would really like to hear more about this, if any LED systems are going to work, it will be this one. 80 watts of LED power.

im hoping it kicks some ass.

very interesting....I too would like to see the progess and results from this.....found info online....pretty interesting stuff!

1200 can net you alot in terms of 1000 watters and digital balasts. While I cant wait to see the results of the experiment the light given off by the 2 UFOs (Which I feel is smallish anyway) seems so much dimmer in pictures then say, 4x1000 watts of HPS.

But anyway good luck!
I want PICS!

That's about 8000 LPW of 100% usable PAR radiation... If all the other results were done with LED arrays of around 30w or so, these should blow them out of the park :hump:

well, some people arent looking for large grows.
the LEDs will outlast Hps bulbs (which run around 100 bucks for hte good ones)

if you're looking to do a smaller grow and just keep harvesting over a long period of time, LED already wins in price (as long as it gets results) because of electric costs.

4000 watts of electricity coming on for exactly 12 hours a day every day would make me uneasy, granted you could split it all up, but still it's a lot of power to use.. and will cost money. the LED he is using is using the power of a regular light bulb and supposedly has the grow capacity of a 400w HPS.. if it's even close, that is insanely efficient.

just imagine in a couple years what the prices might be like, and how much further this technology should come

I will definately make a journal. The led ufo consumes 80 watts of power, it uses wide angle directional 1 watt bulb, the most effient light source in the world (lumens per watt). I have a 600 watt right now. So I can compare the differences. Should I be worried about my 600 w power consumption? Does it draw too much electricity to make the power company suspicious?

my switchable 1000watt (currently using HPS) was $350, but you can get a 400watt HPS for $119 at HTGSupply. you talk about price, but my power bill is only $30 more with the 1000watt that i only paid $350 for...i read about the UFO light in high times, but i am beyond skeptical - especially for the outrageous price. speedhabit already stated this, but the amount of supplies you could buy with $1200 could transform several rooms into the PERFECT grow areas. theres alot of stuff to buy other than lights and things that use power, you could have made the sickest setup ever! with co2 and a light mover to grow a huge area! or a small area w/ hydro or anything else you could imagine!

the fact that you spent $1200 on something that grows comparable to a 400watt makes me raise an eyebrow..you talk about heat, yet in my tiny apartment 1 oscillating fan keeps things nice and ventilated. in my opinion, you should have invested the $ in something else - i see your 600watt outgrowing the LED.

im VERY interested in seeing the results, so make sure to keep us posted! i want to see what $1200 of LEDs will do, because even if it DOES grow similar to a 400watt - it would still be a ripoff in my eyes; heat/price/ballast+reflector are very easy to control - you could have bought an air cooled reflector for $85, that would have solved the heat problem - just add a fan for ventilation and bam, no issue at all. for small grows, your 600watt would be perfect - or a 400watt from HTG for less than $120. all in all, i think the price of the LEDs far outweigh the price youll save on $. maybe in 4 years youll save like $50, but i really dont see how this is a good deal.

im honestly not trying to bash your purchase, im just stating my opinion. im really interested in seeing what happens though, maybe in the years to come this technology will truly takeover the HIDs!

agreed, those UFO's look like a marketing scam......I understand all the benefits of LED lights, but this is just bull shit.....they can't compare to HID....and yes if that $600 disc works as good as a 400 watt(the website says it works better, and just slightly less than a 600 watt), and it won't have the same depth penetration so how could it......it would still be a complete rip.....a 600 watt HPS is only $250 and only cost $360 a year to run 24-7....and the UFO will cost you about $60 a year to run, so it would actually take 2 years to get back your original cost, in electrical savings....and in that 2 years the guy with the 600 watt has grown a lot more weed than you have with your UFO.......does not sound like great savings to me...sounds like BS....marketing...........scam.......:peace::peace:

I want to see the results.

here's what you could have spent that $1200 on, instead of 2 ripoff LED's which are equiv to a 400watt..

$300 - switchable 1000watt HPS/MH with ballast,reflector,socket and cord fixture, and hortilux-eye bulb
$85 - new air cooled glass-bottom reflector
$50 - inline fan to go in reflector
$150 - light mover
$200 - badass co2 system
$120 - 5 bottles of nutrients & 2 bags of soil

totaling $905 and you can use the rest for a veg room!

$120 - 400watt mh @ htgsupply.com (all of this shit can be found cheap there)
$20 - clone dome + rooting hormone

total: $1045

look at that bad ass setup for $155 less than what you paid for 2 crappy LED's which are equivilant to a 400watt...you cant use the excuse of "oh but i wanna do a small grow!" cus #1 you just spent $1200 on weed lights and #2 you could easily use HALF of that 1200 on a QUALITY small grow. unless you already have all the stuff i mentioned, but i doubt that cus you said you only have a 600watt - which is a great light! you should try to get your $ back from those 2 led's...you could even save part of that 1200 to use on your power bills, a 1000watt (or in your case, a 600watt) isnt going to bring it up by much - sell a quarter of fire dank grown under your 600watt and youll make up a years difference instantly.

Dude Dude Dude, Hes doing an experiment, dont get all agressive at him. Until one of us acually uses one of these (and we owe him props on that) we wont know the a) Light penatration of the directional LEDs b) Effectevness of the "perfect" spectrum c) Bud density.

Im getting impatient, you gonna grow these in soil or hydro?

didnt mean to seem aggro, im just being realistic. this guy must have some cash to spend, cus even if all 3 of those factors you listed are top notch i still dont see how it could be worth it. i want him to come back and list specs like lumens and all the other stuff i hope hes researched, im just as impatient as you :blsmoke:i just want him to get good results, and i hate seeing ppl ripped off. he never said anything about any experiments, which is why it looks like hes making a casual purchase for something he believes is new and great - but i still dont see how this could be worth it, im still waiting to see how ;/ if thats how he wants to grow thats cool, but the whole idea just seems shady. come back & tell us everything u researched about the light, im really interested in growth rates and flowering.

im with chronicle on this one. look at that list of shit he could of bought with 1200 dollars. i respect the man for going out on the limb and trying the new technology. but dude 1200 dollars is 1200 dollars in my book. 1200 on 2 lights? or 1200 on a sick flowering room and a sick veg room?

those shit led panels on ebay cant compare to the leds your buying....definitly do a journal.

I think he hopes to save money on power over a period of time by using LED's. It's only a matter of time before everyone will be using LED's in my opinion, when LED technology is up standard. Lets hope these do the job and the technology is close enough, I would love to see the journal on this.

All the best
