Lowryder #2 Auto Flower - Step by step

Hi everybody!

Im TooCoolo, and Im gonna grow a "Lowryder #2" feminized seed from The joint Doctor's High Breed Seeds. No commercial intended, but the previous seed I grew from this same package, turned out a huge long living female plant that now I'm seriously doubting its even a LR2 or auto flower. (It is the one in the right, now almost 4 months old and round 0.5m tall...)

So yeah, we can all agree that doesn't look like a LR2 Auto...

I'm not an expert, but I've grown a few plants enough to pull this one out and share the tips and tricks, the success and/or the failure with all of you.

I'll post several times a week, with pics, to show the progress and process of this little beauty that everybody's talking about. I'll do it my way, but y'all can contribute; You're free to post and give tips or corrections, and show off your LOWRYDER2s plants, or just post to say hi or give opinions or whatever.

But most important: you're free to plant one of those seeds yourself and follow me with this little quest and see how each plant behaves on different parts of the world.

I'm growing in a pretty good latitude, or so I've heard: I'm in Barcelona, Spain. Outdoors, in pots with good direct sunlight from 9am til 5pm, and good light for close to 15 hours a day. Good humidity, lots of sun, wind, etc.

Be patient as I will be, since this baby is suppose to be ready to harvest in 9 weeks.

So lets start! The sooner we get it to germinate, the sooner we'll taste her sweet sweet buzz! Get your seeds!

MATERIAL:
I'll be using through the week:
-Crystal shot-glass
-Pure mineral water (bottled or filtered's better)
-Dixie Cup / plastic cup / small pot, to hold the baby plant once germinated.
-A plastic dome to emulate a mini green house for the baby. You can use a clear tuperware or some package from take-away food.
-Substrate, aka earth. I use Biobizz light-mix.
-A good fatty for when each and every task is done!

Day 1: Germinating The seed.

So by now I'm assuming everybody knows a technique to germinate a seed. I won't go into the many ways of doing so, cause its all said, but I'm gonna tell you what I'm doing:

I've found that a pretty good way to germinate a seed, is to drown it in a little shot-glass full of pure mineral water. Just fill the glass, and with your CLEAN hands, drop the seed in the water. It should float on the top. Now what we need is to let it rest there for a day, in a DARK WARM spot, preferably with a constant temperature. I simply cover my shot glass with a dark cup, and let it rest in my living room, where is warm, inside a cabinet.

So that's it! You can smoke a j now! :joint:

Tomorrow I shall go check the seed, and if everything's ok, the seed should be sunk in the bottom of the glass. We'll see.

Tomorrow if everything went ok, we will plant the seed in a small pot/dixie cup/empty yogurt cup with some soil-mix.

Until then, please support this thread, let me know if you're following and what you think.

See you soon! Happy Tokes!

Cool man! Lets do this. I'm sure the Miracle Grow soil will be as good as everything else.

DAY 2 !

Alright, so my little seed sunk all the way to the bottom of the glass, as you can see on the picture. Also, its pretty obvious that it germinated, cause I can see a little white tail sneaking out of the seed.

yay!

So now I'm putting this baby in a cup of Biobizz's Light-Mix, which is the same soil I use through the whole process. Its supposed to be good as it reduces the stress of transplanting into a different soil.

I use an empty yogurt cup, but any cup will do, as long as you pierce it a little with a knife or something, to create water drainage holes. I made 3 little holes in the bottom and 2 on the sides using a kitchen knife. This also helps the transplant later on.

Carefully deposit the seed barely 0.5cm into the soil with the knot facing down if posible, and water generously with pure mineral water. The seed might then get a little deeper into the "mud". It must never be too deep into the soil.

Thats it! Now I'll cover our new baby with a plastic dome that I found. You can use a clear Tupperware or anything similar. The reason for this is just to make a little greenhouse-effect, by holding the humidity and higher temperature inside the dome.

I'll keep her covered for the first few days, while I make sure the soil's always humid, but not damp wet. After the first big shower of today, I'll wait until the top of the soil looks dry and crusty, and then I'll spray water again. The first week, I ONLY SPRAY WATER, and only when needed.

The baby and the dome will stay in my garden, in a place with lots of light but not much direct sunlight. (If you're doing this inside, make sure she gets 18 hours of light a day, and to keep her in a nice warm spot.) After a week or so, if everything goes well, I'll transplant her to a bigger and definitive pot.

So that's it for today. Lets make a J to celebrate the birth of my new baby...

Cheers everybody!

I planted 2 low rider seeds lasy week and only 1 sprouted and compared to the other strains (4) sprouted and have grown look stronger. So I will be growing only one lowrider along with 7other seedling. I am growing hydro under lights So we have a good compairson, time and medium. Good luck, lets grow

what does aouto flower mean???
The Auto Flower strains, like Low Ryder 2, are plants that don't depend on the light cycle to determinate when they start flowering. At least in theory, this strains will end growing and start flowering 6 weeks after planted.

This is because the strain has been crossed with rudelaris strains.

Good luck!

So how's it going jollytime? Hope your babies are growing nice and strong.

Day 5

On this side of the garden, everything's looking good so far. The baby y rising towards the sun. After the initial abundant watering, I have only sprayed her once with some pure mineral water today. Aside from that, she's on her own!

Come on baby Lowryder! GROW!!

Nice thread chief. Any chance of an update soon? I started a femmed Lowryder x AK-47 seed today and I'm curious to get an idea of what I should expect. Never grown Lowryder before so keep the thread updated with pics and what's working/not working with your grow! Thanks and keep up the good work.

I just harvested my last Diesel Ryder last night. I will never let anyone put down a strain just because it's an autoflower. These little girls were excellent. I made sure to get plenty of seeds, so I'm set to grow these for a long time.

China- Did you have a male Diesel Ryder which you used to pollinate your girls or did you take a male from another strain?

I'm doing a test run on my Lowryder x AK-47 autoflowering strain so I just planted one seed. I'm going to see how it does and I plan to start my real crop in late August, around the time when this little gal is finishing up.

My Lowryder x AK seeds are all feminized but I'm going to get 10 regular seeds, thinking about The Joint Doctor's Diesel Ryder, and then I would start those with my remaining femed Lowryder x AK seeds in late August. I was thinking that way I could keep the best male Diesel Ryder and pollinate one of the Diesel Ryder gals and one of the Lowryder x AK gals. That would give me enough seeds to last a while. Diesel Ryder looks pretty damn nice and I'v heard nothing but good things about it.

Does my breeding idea sound like its worth a go? I have done a seed run before but this is my first time growing/breeding autoflowering plants.

Sorry for the long delay to update, I've been buisy at work. Here you'll see what you should expect the first 2 weeks of growth. On the pics background right, is what you could expect if something's going wrong; it was my first LR2, that somehow turned out NOT autoflowering, and is around 4 or 5 m/o. I've heard it happens :P Good Luck!

Day 15 - 17

A couple of days ago, I lift the humidity dome to check on the baby, to see how moist the soil was, etc, and I found that the little seed shell that was still stuck on one of the leaves, was generating some kind of fungus mold. This is obviosly because of the high humidity inide the dome, so after removing the moldy seed shell, I rised the dome with a little stone, in order to allow the air to circulate a little into the dome. Its alright now!

Now's day 17, and Im ready to transplant the baby into a bigger pot. Posibly the last pot she'll be into. But as I said, Im kinda buisy, so I'll hopefully get to it this weekend.

I think this one's from a little bit before it got the fungus...

How's everybody's plants doing, people? Good Luck!

Happy tokes,
TooCoolo

toocoolo It looks like that plant is stretching a lot. Any new pics? Did you get her in the new pot?

Do you have any experience breeding auto strains?

My plant is up and doing nicely but I'd be interested to check your progress.

That plant sure does look stretchy for 17 days old. What sort of light are you using? I am new to the autoflowering seeds myself, but there is a great article in the High Times Aug. 09' issue. Gets straight to the point!!!

Yes, it was getting too long!

Sorry for my absense, I've got a lot of work.

someone explain this autoflower business to me...
In simple terms: plants that flower soon and without any light modification needed.

Last tuesday, on day 22 my beloved woman change the baby to the bigger pot. She did a good job, she took good pictures, and I promise that as soon as I have some spare time, I'll post it all properly.

I have experience breeding from seeds, but not from auto-flower. I planted one from the same package earlier, but it turned out big and healthy. Im sure it was the wrong seed or a recesive gen or something; I've seen other cases round here...

The light I'm using is the king Sun himself. This is all outdoors.

I'll be back! Cheers!

Sorry again about my absence. I've really been very bussy with work. Luckily my girl has got enough free time to take care of the baby Low Ryder.

As I said on my previous post, last week on day 22, the baby plant got changed to a bigger pot. Here's some pics and descripitions about how we did it:

so...

DAY 22 (@ day 30)

On day 22 the plant is big enough to be transplanted to the bigger and final pot. We know this because of the size of the plant, and because it has more than 4 tiny leaves in 3 levels. Usually I transplant it earlier, as soon as the 2nd level of leaves arrive, but as I said, I've been too damn absent.

To the moving of the baby we'll need:

-Bigger pot: I choosed this clay pot, cause I've heard clay's always better than plastic, better for soil transpiration, temperature and drenage. And also cause is the only pot I got left in my tiny garden.

-Soil: I use the same soil I used for germination: Bio Bizz Light Mix, but you can use your favourite mix.

- Water

Its quite easy to do this. Some people recomend to do transplants at night, to reduce plant stress. We didn't do it this time, but maybe you'd want to.

Fill the new pot almost to the top with the soil, and make a tiny cavity on top, about the size of the yoghurt pot the baby is in.

So here's when that used yoghurt cup will come handy to the transplantation. First I shower the baby a little with water, and let it rest for up to an hour to let the soil absorb the water and make it compact and solid. Then we simply crack open the yoghurt cup and carefully place it in the cavity of the new pot.

Cover it up with soil, using your hands and pressing a little.

Shower the baby. Sing her a lullaby, and let it be...

Yay!

Thats about it. From here, we'll just have to make sure she's got enough water, overall being this a hot town-summer in the city. My bigger plants are needing up to 2 showers a day, but this being a baby will need a bit less. We just have to be sure the dirt is moisted, but not damp.

If the transplant was well done (and there's not many reasons why it wouldn't be), your baby plant will start growing like a maniac the following days. Here's a picture of how she looked a couple of days after transplant:

So that's that. Today's day 30, and she's looking fine and dandy.

Let me know how's your plant going, and if I can help in any way I would be glad to.

Cheers! Happy tokes!

Day 35

Baby LR2 is growing. It does look a little like a Bonsai plant!

She's doing fine, expetf that I see some THRYP activity going on her leaves. I've struggled a lot with those damn bugs in the past. Growing outdoors, close to a big park (Parc Güell that is) and with a lot of other plants on my garden, from ornamental flowers to Jalapeño and Roses, Thryps are a recurrent pain in the ass...

So far, I think the best method I got to fight them, is NEEM OIL, commonly found at grow shops and gardening shops. Its a concentrated oil that diluted on water and sprayed on the leaves, keeps the thrips and other bugs away.

My bigger plants are now strugling with budworms, which are the larvae of tiny butterflies and moths, but thats another story.

So here she is, 13cm tall...

Happy weekend!
