My Micro Patron Bubbly Sex Machine

Soooo... what happens when your g/f buys you a bottle of patron on a friday night????

Well, you smoke a bowl and turn the box into a mini bubbler of course!!!

OK, this is just a little experiment I decided to try. I wanted to see if I could make a small bubbler to use for new clones so I could sex potential mother plants. ( without flowering the whole plant or waiting for preflower )

What I used Basically an old air pump, patron box of course, 1.5qt tupperware I found, 3"net pot, hydroton, duct tape.

It's a very basic little bubbler, I just got a kick out of how the patron seemed perfect for the job!! Actually, the only benefit I could think of, after working on it for an hr, was that I could leave the tub clear ( to see if the clone had roots ) and use the box as a cover to keep the light out, it works pretty well!!! Check it out.
= )

just a small update, some of her leaves are starting to, not necessarily a bad thing, she no longer needs them dome and didn't wilt when I took it away. I'm hoping thats becuz she has roots, in which case I'll veg for another week or two, and then pop her in the flowering box for sexing.....

Hey everyone, I would like to close this thread By saying my little experiment went great! The little clone grew some awesome roots and has since moved to my main system, you can check her out in my journal. If her donor turns out to be a fem, I'm gonna keep her as a mother. Sadly, however, I've given the small bubbler away to a friend of mine who wanted to start growing. I decided to pay it forward. =) thanx for all who commented....

Is the water level in your pictures the level you keep it at? And what is the purpose of the humidity dome, a necessity or is your house low on humidity? Sorry I'm new at this and still learning

Xrtnfx, the water level is a matter of distance from your net pot. For clones I keep the water level very close bout a half inch to an inch from the bottom of my net pot. It's the perfect distance for the water agitation to keep the cube moist. The humidity dome is a must, IMHO. MY humidity can be low in the room, due to many fans cooling the room, but even in a room with Ideal humidity for Vegetative growth, I would use a dome. These little cuttings don't have any roots yet, and sometimes little leaves left, so they'll be using what foliage they do have to absorb moisture. So you should have a lot of it available. Cloning, as a surprise to me, is actually very easy. Get a good root hormone, some rockwool cubes, ph'd water and you can clone!! Hope this helps.

hmmm.. thats interesting.. first off very creative little bubbler. however i get much better results with out a dome. with the dome my cuttings took allot longer to sprout the roots. over moist perhaps? my humidity stays around 40-60 most of the time. also i found that the medium , i use rockwool, needs not to be soaking wet. this too seems to prolong the sprouting and have takin out quit a few from being too wet. my conclusion is that if there is too much moisture in the cubes why should the plant go searching or be in any hurry to sprout roots..

good points, I've never had a clone take much longer than a week on average. Maybe it's just luck. On the other hand you are right about one thing, and I did forget to mention. I only use the dome for the first 3-4 days. By then, they're usually on their way, and don't need the dome anymore. I've done several cloning method experiments, and found that doming them for the first few days after cut kept them happy and healthy! =) Furthermore, I'm not the type to be walking into my grow every couple hrs to mist the clones, the dome and the bubbler keep em plenty moist. As for the moisture in the cubes. Once you can confirm that the clone has rooted, then I would back off on the water level to lower the moisture level in the cubes. However i've let the cube SIT in the water before and still had the clone root, and subsequently continue root growth into the res. Of course this is my OPINION and only represents my results. I suggest everyone do their own research and experiment on their own, it's the only TRUE way to gain the experience needed to do this correctly. =)

Below are some pix of one of the clones I rooted in this bubbler, as you can see, the roots continued to grow with no problems. In DWC the roots are always submerged, yet still continue to grow.. Y? because the plants get everything they need directly from the water. Unlike soil, overly moist medium won't necessarily discourage root growth, Especially with DWC where the Oxygen come from the DO(dissolved oxygen) in the water.

Ok, sorry about the rant, i'm very stoned. :eyesmoke:
