LSD & Brainstorm Soil vs Hydro Showdown from Clones

This will be my 2nd grow and I decided to do a test drive with soil also. Mad props to allen bud, jhod58vw, and chb444220 and everyone else who has helped me out on my first grow.

Soil: 4 in MGMC, 4 in pro-mix ultimate organic. (i blame chb444220 if MG goes bad lol)
Hydro: Will start the other 4 newly rooted clones off in aeroponics until I'm happy with the rootage, then move to a DWC setup.
Nutes: Fox Farm trio for the Soil, General Hydroponics via Lucas Formula for the hydro.

Right now the clones are vegging 24hrs under 3 x 6500k and 1x 2700k bulb (23watts each or something) Flower chamber isn't built yet, but will have about 470watts.

I also have 4 clones from the bagseed moms I just chopped down recently. I'll be updating those dirty little girls in this journal too.

Front 4 are in the MG soil, and the back 4 are pro-mix all potted 4/24. I didn't drop the other ones in the aero bucket yet since 2 of them didn't have enough roots showing, but they're ready now and I'll try to get them done tomorrow.



My biggest one with a 3" net pot for comparison. This one actually was damaged and lost an upper branch during transit. It's in MG soil.



The bagseed clones.. Heavy LST and Fimming, since the flower chamber isn't done yet. Might figure something else out for them though since they're pretty big.

Day 1 of Week 2:
Left side is MG, right Pro-Mix. Other pic is hydro, as if that one needed explanation =P. Pro-mix girls took off after going to the 18/6 room. All plants have an exceptional amount of roots, might post a pic in a few days. I should have the hydro going in their DWC home by then.

but following from here on out drampire... however im a little confused as to why you would use mg soil and then ff nutes

looking real nice man, but.... you need more lights, i used the same exact amount on 1 plant and you have 8+, and the lights need to be like 2-4 inches away from the plants , because the CFL dont get to hot you got to keep them close, or your goign to have skinny plants that cant hold themselves up! ill be following you!

Nice looking grow there you have.. I agree on the light's , but not gonna harp on it lol. I seen some omri list mg the other day at walmart in a tan bag..not sure if its what you're using or not.. kinda waitting to see how this turn's with the vs thang.. good luck and I'll drop in from time to time.

I was going to just run the pro-mix, but looking at chb444220's results I wanted to give MG a run for it. I'm also going to follow his feed schedule. If it doesnt work out by the end of my 4 week veg period, I'll put it in something else for flowering. If they both do kinda lame, I may just put them in a mix of fox farm ocean forest and light warrior. Using the FF nutes, cause that's what jhod uses and I love how his are doing.

The veg room has 4 mix spectrum t12's (2 daylight and 2 of the grolux), and they did pretty damn good for my other clones. I'll be getting them closer to the light soon, or adding in a couple CFL just for them.

thanks man! nope I don't think thats the same stuff, maybe thats the organic. I'm using the blue bag, moisture control. 2 of the 3 bags I bought had mold in them when I opened, so I'm somewhat skeptical atm. They may jump ship at the end of veg. Roots are lookin pretty hot atm though.

Yikes.. I would have flipped.. maybe it will hold out into bloom.. either way they look heathly as fuck..

Day 6 of Week 2:

Kinda shitty pics, but wanted to post the new growth. I gave the soil girls 1/2 strength of what FF says for week 2 on grow big and big bloom. Was gonna wait till week 3 to use nutes, but I thought it would be beneficial to start now as long as I kept it low. I also wanted to give the hydro girls their 5/10 lucas dose. (It's more like 2.5/5 atm, but gonna transfer them to the dwc home this weekend)

Not sure on what exactly I'm gonna do as far as fimming or topping. Will probably stick with fimming since I've done it before. Won't try to get more than 4 mains per. I'd like to fim the taller ones soon so the shorties can catch up. Any ideas?

Well, I'm already 5 days into week 3 and I'm a bit concerned why they aren't branching out much at the nodes. I only wanted to veg for 4 weeks, but I might need to give them a 5th. They're under the same settings my last clones were and they did great. Is it common for indicas to not wanna branch out much, or maybe because they are LSD and Brainstorm? Here's a couple pics. Right soil are MG, others are Pro-Mix. Overall the MG ones are the biggest soil grown. Hydro is pwning them all.

whats up drampire like that little hydro setup girls are looking nice & healthy think later this year i might make me a aeroponics setup out of 4 abs pipe.

Day 2 of Week 4:

Looks like I'm back on track to my 4 week veg limit. Sunday I'll be putting them in to flower in the room I still need to finish! It will be done!

My sexy hydro girls, with comparison to the best of the soils MG then ProMix. (The tall MG one was wrapping around the lights, which is why it's like that. Gotta move em down a bit =P)

Here's a few shots of the girls in my new flowering chamber. Might look familiar to some of you lol. I have a 50cfm bathroom fan at the top blowing out, and I'm going to be putting a vent in the side wall which will be the intake blown in from the chamber underneath. (It may eventually be a veg chamber with T5, but I think I'm set right now lol.) Will be picking up a different fan for the circulation, I just needed something temporarily. I still need to put the door on and some finishing touches, but It's almost done.

So while I was playing around in my new room today, I found some fucking spider mites. There's a couple dozen on the hydro, and the soil sluts have a few also.. I looked around online and liked what I read about Liquid Ladybug, so I went to the shop and picked some up. They tried to sell me this shit called Mighty Wash, and said it was just water with a certain frequency of electricity ran through it or some shit?? I dunno. I came home and gave them a pretty good dose of the stuff I bought. Anyone have good results with either of these? Hopefully I can get this under control. I guess "free" clones come with a price.

Alright, I dipped them in a mite bath of water, alcohol, jalapeno+habanero, and dish soap and then sprayed them with some more liquid ladybug today. They're supposed to go to 12/12 tomorrow, but want to get the mites pwnd first. The hydro are the worse, if things don't start getting better for those they will be chopped and sent to quarantine =(. They're pretty damn tall too, so I did some underwater supercropping while I was dipping them lol.

thanks bro. the yellow lights are actually the 2700k, video made them turn yellow =P. I'm probably going to switch to 12/12 today and stay on schedule, I won't feel bad if I have to dip them or spray them the first couple weeks in flower. Gonna nab some clones from them too so I can keep going. I might be getting some cheese clones in about 4 weeks too, so those can go under when these are done =) Those will be in a soil test using fox farm (light warrior veg + ocean forest flower) and dr. earth medicine garden.

Looking good man. Bet thats a fun grow to do, the Hydro vs. Soil. Defiantly subbing to see the outcome.
