Yucky Molasses..

The molasses went vinegar in my 50-gallon auto-water tub.. Anyone had this happen to them? I would like to know how the sugars stay in the soil and get absorbed by the plant if they just turn to vinegar with the inclusion of oxygen.

Anyway.. I will post my formulas later but I use soluble seaweed powder 1-0-18, azomite, humic acid, and epsom salt for the 50-gal drum, this lasts 5 days with the single plant in a 26gallon medium. I used 15tsp of molasses in a 50-gallon drum and my pH spiked to 5.8 from 6.8pH due to the molasses rotting - emitting the sulfur smell as well.

Has this happened to anyone else?

yes the carbs are only to feed the bugs in your soil/water.

five days is sometimes too long , an the bad bugs will breed more then the good ones , giving off that rotten smell. are you using plenty of aeration? what medium are you in?

50 gallons would be a hard "tea maker" to clean out. when you make teas in a res that big , you gotta be able to get to all the corners an clean everythang. them microbes , good or bad, will breed very fast when you feed them sugars.
