Your soil grow container choice...

Well I looked around and didnt see a thread on pot choices so I thought I would start one. I am new to growing and was lucky enough to have a friend kinda coach me through everything. My current set up is a 4X4 tent with a 6 inch blockbuster, 600 lumatech ballast with digilux hps, votex 6 inch fan with can carbon filter. I have been using 3 gallon smart pots but was thinking about going to regular old plastic 5 gallon pots next grow. The reason I would like to switch is that the smart pots make a mess when watering. Im willing to deal with the mess if its really worth it. Who out there has used plastic and smart pots? What did you like better??

Airpruning pots work great.
I love mine.
No more spiral roots in the bottom of the pot.
A great grower here Hobbes documented 25% increase in yield.
I Diy mine, but they all work.
I also top feed an bottom feed mine at different times lol.

I save all the nursery pots from anything I plant at work so that's what I use with saucers. Top and bottom feed. I'm thinking of giving a couple smart pots a try out of curiosity.

Smart pots are a dumb buy unless you need a specific size. Go to walmart or a dollar store and get some reusable shopping bags - they are like $.50-1.00.

Not sure if there is a real performance difference between plastic and bags - they say bags let in more oxygen, but it isn't anything crazy.

I picked up a few of these today, and they are really nice: http://www.ehydroponics.com/rose-bucket-black-square-pot-175-gallon-10-x-7-x-7.html

I like that it's a square pot with a small footprint, but holds a decent amount of soil. They also have a 3 gallon version, but it take up more space than I want. They are kinda costly, but high quality, and extra deep so you can fit more soil in a smaller footprint.

Most grows last less than 90 days and a 3-gallon pot is fine for up to that period.
I use 3-gallon pots for my regular indica grows and 7-quart pots for autos. My
little autos are done in 6-7 weeks and don't need more dirt to get to the size I
want.
