They say college isn't worth the money anymore....

(response)
College is an absolute scam, you have to take non-sense courses that have absolutely nothing to do with your major. Surviving college doesn't mean a damn thing anymore, all you are getting for your 100+k is a brainwashed zombie

greatest acheivment? This is kind of a tough one since I have so many!

It probably would have to be when I rose back from the dead. Then ascended into heaven.
That was a good weekend.

well... maybe not the dying on the cross part...

When I was in college last year, I was forced to take a rock and roll history class. 9AM-12am 2 times a week. I assured them, that although I love music(especially rock) that it will have nothing to do with my major.

That was the worst class I've ever taken...the teacher was a nazi and he took the class like it was quad-trig or some shit. I dropped out of that class fast.

Well since you insist on bumping this thread and continueing posting off topic responses.

Can you expliain why you you think that atheists are dumb for believeing there was nothing and nothing happened....when you could easily change it to describe to your beliefs if you just replace the word dinosaurs with god?

I really shouldn't have to explain.

Just love the fact that 'they' think everything we see everyday came from dust combustion.

Edit:

To answer that, all you have to do is open the good book and read the first few pages, thats how it went down.
Nothing magic about it...

And dont think that most believers dont question it. You have 2 choices, believe or not. And to me, believing makes more sense. Guess thats what you guys call our "blind" faith.

I realize this is going to sound a bit strange on a drug forum, but.......

My last trip through treatment, I came in really messed up on opiates, benzos, and alcohol, all I wanted was to be left alone.
For some reason my body would not detox and after 20 days I got sent to the State Hospital locked ward.
Being that I am terribly claustrophobic, it was like hell, and I was pulling bad coming off the opiates and benzos.
I was sure I was going to die, or worse off, go insane and get sent to the long term ward.
My only glimmer was a 10 min stop outside daily for a look at the sun.

For 37 days I was in absolute chaotic hell, trapped in my mind a closed loop of thoughts, but I made it.
I came out with a greater respect for alot of things and a better person.
Congratulations man

Yeah man, I had a friend that was addicted to heroin for 2 years and got me addicted to it (smoking, not injecting) for a while and I have a lot of respect for you for being able to pull through that. It's probably one of the toughest things to go through in your entire life (including child birth, in my opinion.)

I'd have to say my greatest achievement so far in my life has been growing up. I've gone from ditching high school every day and eventually dropping out to coming back and getting my GED and going to college, to doing really good in college. I'm about a year away from getting my bachelors in psychology, and I don't have any plan on stopping. My goal is to one day achieve my Ph.D and do groundbreaking research with marijuana and the treatment of mental disorders and illnesses. I've gone from being completely apathetic about life to being a driven individual with a burning passion to succeed and make a change in my community.

That one confuses me...

We might as well stop, we have had this convo a few times, and I see your not a believer, and I'm not an atheist...so neither of us are going to change. We both just gotta hope we are right.

Only difference is, if I'm right, I'll get to brag about it.

Belief isn't a choice because it doesn't matter how much you believe something is true, if the observable facts of reality don't coincide with what your beliefs are, then your beliefs are wrong, not reality. You could believe all day long the sky is red, you could tell yourself that 100 times, you could draw it out in coloring books as red, but guess what? It still doesn't make it red. You may believe it is, you may have even convinced yourself it's red. But the observable facts of reality, the objective facts, are you're wrong, and it's blue. Your belief is wrong.

In this sense, you do not get to choose what is true and what isn't. You can choose to lie to yourself and trick yourself (quite an impossible task in my own mind, similar to how you can't hide objects from yourself), but you can't force yourself to believe in something.

It's unbelievably sad to me that you'd put something as petty as 'bragging rights' before human life and existence.

Grow up.

I exist, do I not?

Funny thing is, there is no absolute proof there is no God, just like there is no absolute proof that there is a God.

I love the fact you compare something so complex to something so simple as the sky being red...could you not think of a better analogy?

Grow up? What the fuck does that have to do with anything?

The same things you said, can be turned right back around on you. The difference is I've done my own research, searched my own heart and soul, and I believe there is a God, therefore there is a devil, who obviously rules this earth these days....What have you done? Researched scientist 'discoveries'? Found that what they said is true? Why is so hard for an atheist to believe the words in the Bible, when you can so easily believe what that scientist wrote in his notepad? The history in the Bible, the prophecies? Just because you are a scientific minded individual doesn't mean you cant believe.

Yet you choose not to because the sky is blue??

Grow up.

EDIT: Where the fuck are the monkeys that have finally made the evolution to becoming human? I dont see any monkeys that even remotely resemble us, yet a few skeletons prove we came from a monkey? -I believe in evolution, because it has been proven. Things evolve....but something as dramatic as transforming completely? Give me a break. Just because a modern day monkey figured out how to use a rock as a tool doesnt conclude that we came from them.

Yes, you exist.

Funny thing is, there is no absolute proof there is no God, just like there is no absolute proof that there is a God.

You're right, which is why I revert to the odds. It's a numbers game, the odds a god exists are just too small. It's more than that though, the greatest reason in my mind no gods exist is because it is logically inconsistent with reality. In other words, it doesn't make any sense.

But if that's your argument to believe in God, then I've gotta ask... should we simply believe in everything there is no proof towards or against? The unprovable, all of it, should we just accept that it all exists without questioning it or the host of implications that come along with belief itself? Ghosts, fairies, leprechauns, Santa Clause... none of it can be disproven, does that mean you automatically believe it?

I love the fact you compare something so complex to something so simple as the sky being red...could you not think of a better analogy?
I think you might have missed the point... Which was you don't get to choose what you believe. Beliefs are not chosen, they are automatic. Your brain assesses the information available via your 5 senses then automatically decides for you what you believe to be true based on the information you've learned and your previous life experiences. There is no choice about the matter at all. Just like love, you don't get to choose who you love.

Grow up? What the fuck does that have to do with anything?
It's petty of you to put "bragging rights" above humanity. "if you're right, we both just rot in the ground, big deal! but if I'm right I get to spend eternity in paradise while you roast in fire!". That's petty man, that's what's important to you?

The same things you said, can be turned right back around on you. The difference is I've done my own research, searched my own heart and soul, and I believe there is a God, therefore there is a devil, who obviously rules this earth these days....
How this doesn't fly completely in the face of traditional religious teachings I just don't understand... God's all powerful right? ALL POWERFUL. How could the Devil be in control of shit if God was ALL POWERFUL? What, is God allowing the Devil to control the Earth? WTH kind of ALL LOVING God would do that? This is the stuff I'm talking about, these are the kinds of things are are LOGICALLY INCONSISTENT with REALITY. If you can't answer how an all loving, all caring, all powerful being who you believe created you and all of existence FOR YOU but at the same time put the most evil being in existence in control of it then... should you really be worshiping it in the first place?

What have you done? Researched scientist 'discoveries'? Found that what they said is true? Why is so hard for an atheist to believe the words in the Bible, when you can so easily believe what that scientist wrote in his notepad?
Years and years of reading and thinking. You can TEST the theories for yourself to be SURE they are true, that's the beauty of it.

The words in the Bible were written to control people, and it's worked well. You can read what the Bible says about life, existence, anything, and go check for yourself with our vast amount of technology. You can sit down and KNOW that keeping people as slaves is wrong, eliminating entire villages is wrong, the majority of the Bible is common sense knowledge or outright immoral, designed to divide.

The difference between me and you is I don't take anyones word. I take my own word. You believe what the Bible says based on, well.. what the Bible says. I believe what science says because I know how to test it, I know how to read measurements, I'm not required to believe anyone. Science says "here it is, come and check for yourself!"

That isn't even worth a response.
