young seedlings sprouted, need some quick help.. pics included

my seedlings sprouted and since saturday (yesterday) ive been just putting them on the window sill. someone told me i should place them 1-2inches under this 15watt florescent light i have for two weeks. he said it will keep them from getting too tall. but how long should they be under this light per day? and can someone give me more information on why this is a good way to start seedlings? they will be grown outdoors in pots. i would have waited for him to reply back but i kind of want to know now before i screw something up :p

btw its a lot brighter in person, my webcam just doesn't take very good pictures

A 15 watt fluorescent light isn't really strong enough... You may get some growth but they'll look stretched. If theyre gonna be grow outdoors I'd put them in semi-direct sunlight if its veg season. If its not id invest in a 48 watt CFL white spectrum light.... 16 hours per day for a a month or so then start to flower.

Hope it helped peace

Whenever I leave my seedlings in veg stage under a T-12 Fluorescent I just leave it on for 24 hours for 2-3 weeks. I have heard if your transitioning outdoors you should start at 24 hours and then every day cut the light shorter and shorter until it is the same as the sunset and sunrise in your area.
Peace, goodluck

15 watts is not much power. and give them 18- 24 hrs of light per day. once it gets about 12-18' inches u can throw it into flower by swithching light to a strict 12 12 schedule

what if i were to give them the semi direct sunlight from sunrise to sunset, then about 6 more hours under the 15 watt after the sun sets? keep in mind this will only be for a couple weeks or so. or until i get them into their permanant homes. after that im just doing sunlight only. idk im just trying to find the best way to start off the seedlings if im growing outdoors so any help would be great. i dont want them to be too long and flimsy.

The idea of sun and the 15 watter may work but its sounds like a lot of shock on those young seedlings. Your best off looking at experienced outdoor growers that have had success. or just google 'starting outdoor seedlings' Like I said, just get a stronger bulb. 10$ 15$? its not too bad considering the results youll get

scrblaze333 is right you beed stronger lighting for two babies 15 watts will make them tall and thin becayse the plant streches to reach more light

yeah i think im just going to do the semi direct sunlight only for the next 2 or so weeks. without the 15watt bulb. then get them in full sunlight after i transplant. should workout fine.
