I used to commute from Sac to SJ. It's 1.5-2 hours no traffic, 3-4 with depending on the time and accidents. :( If you can get off commute times it would be helpful. Livermore/San Ramon area is very nice but still up there in price. Same with Gilroy/Morgan Hill. I believe the housing will be easier to find in Gilroy although I wouldn't want to live there. LOL You are looking at a minimum of an hour commute to the Bay Area.

There are some decent blue collar areas that arent super hood. East of oakland through the tunnel is concord, martinez, and pleasant hill. South of oakland along the bay there is san leandro and hayward. Im not sure on rent prices but they would probably be cheaper than most areas without going out too far.

on that note, how is the commute around those parts?

looks like there might be some hope of a decent place in the pleasanton/livermore area, maybe even the gilroy/morgan hill area, but that's gonna be a 30-45 minute commute with perfect roads. kinda curious about what kind of fuckery the traffic introduces to that equation.
Live-no-more sucks, but at least it's not as shady as some of the other places in that price range. Gilroy/Morgan Hill is also a good option if you don't like getting shot at while enjoying cheap rent.

the only bright side to this whole year long arrangement is that i do have family in willits that grows, so at least i don't have to find a new clientele.
Careful if you're planning on bringing things in or out of Willits. It's the most notorious bust spot on the whole pipeline down from Humboldt. I've been pulled over and searched for no apparent reason at all. Was going the speed limit /w cruise control set, cops pulled me over for "speeding", then got to the window and said "I smell marijuana please step out of the vehicle.". I was riding clean at the time. The cops just pull people over and randomly search cars. Be warned.

One thing to think about too, is if you plan on indoor growing the closer to the water you live the better. The bay area has different micro climates. The areas close to the ocean or bay generally have cool temperatures(40s-70s) with little variation and you can grow year round without AC just by cooling your room/hoods with outdoor air. Im in Oakland close to the bay and it is perfect. Going inland like San Jose and the Livermore area you mentioned have scathing temperatures in the summer.

Fuckin lame. Hope you can find a cool place to do outdoors again. Gonna be tough though. Wtf, do you just move to another state every year?
her internship doesn't start until late august, so i will move her in and finish my outdoor up here in portland, join her in november.

and yes, after our year in the bay area, we will be moving again. hopefully for good this time to our little farm that we want.

as a former resident of Mendo i can confirm that dan is 100% right hwy 101 runs right thru the middle of willits and the WPD is bored as fuck and loves to pull over out of state or cars with license plate frames from Socal

His lady only wants a 1 hr commute. Sac to SJ is like 3 hours. I would never want to live in oakpark/south sac from all the stories I've heard living there.

Commuting from Sac. would suck. Your life would consist of driving, working, and sleeping. Not much time for anything else.
