I keep burning up through these oscillating fans..in the 20+ yrs I've bought probably 30 fans
like every year, and granted they run 24/7 but all my vortex fans have lasted 15yrs..
I'm literally contemplating taking apart these broken fans, and Mcgyver'ing it, using the oscillating motor and simply attaching a hose from a 4" vortex to use that as my circulation.. since they don't break
I've tried damn near all brands
This particular stupid Honeywell fan lasted 6 months, the motor just wore out, the blade goes slower and slower. and it's not dirty or anything, wd-40 helps a tiny speck but not much.
The friggin blades aren't even dirty
Anybody have a good fan that's lasted them for years?
And shit, since i'm on the subject... a 600w ballast that doesn't burn out every two yrs would be nice too...
Fuckin solistek

I wired my room with the pimp-setup of the circuits already able to time them, it was a whore, but I am SO spoiled now..
already on a 12/12 from 8pm to 8am..
I've burned out two 600 solisteks in the last 4 yrs.
One LAST night, filled my whole grow room with this acrid sulfurish smelling smlke that was undoubtedly harmful to both me and my plants...

I've been using quantum, 3 yr warranty, 40 month life. (my experience)

Edit: No on the fans.:eyesmoke:
exactly...
Yet another reason to bite the bullet and buy a bunch of cxb3590s
just get it over with.
I have so many dead digital ballasts i'm thinking I don't even need to order heatsinks for my diy LEDs.. just cannabilize the friggin ballast housings, I have five dead ones, threw away another 3 or 4 at least.
meanwhile my magnetic 400w Mh is still working fine..

Oscillating fan is close to the same age. Do You take the front cover off? I did from the start, maybe that has helped. Clean it every rip. so old the base 3/4'' osb.

what brand is your fan?
I clean them constantly, I use compressed air to blow off the dust and whatnot
And I don't take the cover off, can't see why that'd help though, as it's not restricting it or anything, the motor just gets slower and slower.
drives me nuts though..

Too bad Icecap does not make 600w hid ballasts. My 250w ones for my reef tank rocked, got them used and they where over 8 years old and still fired the de mh bulb no problem. Built like a tank. Lumitek ballasts are good from what i hear but can speak for them myself. As for a good lasting fan nothing there sorry all are cheaply made and the motors just flat wear out. So i just buy the cheapest ones i can find. Unless you want to rock a 15lbs brass antique fan, those last forever but i word be worried about electrical fires. Well built motors back in the day but not so great wiring and insulation.

the brand is 'feature comforts'. used to be the bedroom fan, so it has more years than i thought, according to the wife. although the reason i took it off was the constant cleaning, i later read that over time, the guard does restrict airflow causing premature failure. not sure how true that is, but she is still standing. high setting is still too strong for the plants. :leaf:
