Yesterday's Mass Shooting.

Oh thanks, that was such an important point.
No need for sarcasm.

I think it is important not to whitewash the technical details in the pursuit of policy. It’s the same reason I pushed back against your lumping specialist big-game revolvers in “handguns are for killing people”.

Most ≠ all.

Sound policy requires a sound technical basis.

They've been wanting a bigger round for awhile. It's not just about body armor. The AK has more knockdown power than the M4 or AR15. But the M4 is more accurate. It's always a compromise. It has nothing to do with penetrating police body armor.

That's why U.S. special forces use the fn scar 17 which carries 20 7.62 x 51rounds

lulz, I got lured into a stupid discussion about gun design minutia. My bad. This is the topic that the thread was written for. I don't care if the gun was a blunderbuss, I'm just interested in saving lives.

3 shot, 5 injured in Christiana Mall shooting; Delaware State Police search for gunman

CHRISTIANA, Delaware (WPVI) -- Three people were shot and injured at the Christiana Mall in Delaware on Saturday.

All three victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials say two victims are in critical condition and one is in stable condition.

Five other people were injured during the incident, but their injuries are not gunshot-related, officials say.

Huh, nobody mentioned what weapons were used and what kind of rounds were in them.

I guess the problem is simple then, rather than quibble about this gun or that or this round or that being the best for killing people, just ban semi-automatic arms, cock and shot and register that while paying an annual tax. All semi-automatic weapons are illegal, even pistols, don't bother with mag capacity with a bolt action or a lever operated with a tube mag.

Unless a reasonable compromise is reached or is constitutionally possible, an unreasonable constitutional one will be implemented by the federal government. They already banned assault weapons once and can do the same thing with all semi-automatic guns, including pistols, fuck around and find out.

I’ll suggest a codicil: extend the proscription to all civilians. No privileged classes.

So wheel guns and bolt action longs?... It'll be just like Gunsmoke. Ol' Matt Dillon. I don't mind wheel guns, the problem would be collecting all of the non registered semi autos. I think I have maybe 8 out of 13 (lost count) that are non registered via private sale just myself.

All I'm saying is if enough people are pissed off about this and the SCOTUS blocks states and municipalities and the democrats gain a big enough majority a radical solution will be found. It might start with a ban on military assault style weapons and tax and registration and then to regulating all semi-automatic weapons out of existence. I proved that the federal government has the right and ability to both tax and regulate guns technically. Annual taxation would require registration and that could be shared with police.

I'm focused on solutions that are constitutionally possible if the democrats gain power, there are many more, but those are off the top of my head.

Too bad, if they piss off enough folks and the democrats win a majority, I'm just outlining what is possible for the federal government to do, since the SCOTUS blocks the states from enacting restrictions. What I'm saying is the con artists at the NRA fucked you with extremist positions and aligning with the republicans and even Russians FFS. They are a corrupt organization of con artists and when they are done you will be able to own a bolt action or lever rifle and a single action revolver, if you pay to register it and pay the annual tax.

Don't kid yourself, I think America could be at a tipping point socially and politically, thanks in no small part to Trump. If the democrats win a big enough majority they will do the following and more:
HR1 on steroids with voting rights, gerrymandering federal districts and dark money are gone among a host of other changes.

Foxnews is gone, the dominion lawsuit the big lie and their covid coverage make it easy to hold public hearings to enact new laws and regulations covering cable broadcast and the internet. The republicans are involved in an illegal conspiracy with fox where the conferred billions in illegal benefits on the republicans. Without foxnews and their alternative reality the republicans are fucked and without the culture wars they will be cut off at the knees, they have no policies or issues.

Domestic terrorism and hate crime laws will mean no guns and no flying for those on it and hate crimes will put them on it. There are many other measures that can be taken and MAGA terrorists should be treated no differently than Muslim terrorists. They will end up being treated like the commies were in the 1950 by the feds.

Trump, the J6 trials, Kevin's clown show in the house and the descent of republicans into fascist madness are making a democratic win possible and radical solutions likely.

I might not be as long as you think, 2024 could be just the beginning with two more states added in the next decade and a flood of required immigration and almost all will be brown and black. Demographic and generational change are happening at the same time and converging, attitudes change too.

Ok cool.. well, living remotely like we do, we're just gonna mind our own business till they come hit the tripwire. We've both agreed that if it ever came to that, we're just gonna keep firing till we either run out of bullets, or get RPG'd. Otherwise, Im not worried about it.

Many will go down shooting, the robo cops and dogs will be busy, there will be a good market in it. Not to worry there are those 3%ers to go after first, half the guns in the country are mighty tempting target and expand it to 10% and you'll probably get 70% or more. The liberals didn't do it, the NRA and gun nuts did, along with the judges they appointed, that is what will bring you to the reckoning. Guns are restricted in every other liberal democracy peer nation to America, I know I live in one. America might be last, but it will get there, everybody else has, universal healthcare too, both guns and healthcare have one thing in common though, racism, you would not have guns and would have healthcare without it.

... and just to be clear, Im not a gun nut. I enjoy having them for sport, blowing up Tanerite (which is unusually legal), home protection, and self defense. But I'll only carry if I'm going into a hot zone, or if Im selling an item on MarketPlace that's too big to ship, and requires pick up from my location. Otherwise, It's just normal. I can see 3 of mine from where Im standing in the kitchen. But, they're just like pieces of furniture. No big deal. I can understand way people in a more populated area worry about it. More people equal more odds of something crazy happening. But!, it's also the same in the countryside. People don't just come rolling up on you when you live 1/8th of a mile off the country road, and when they do, and you don't know who they are, your safety is in your own hands. There are no cops to call that will be here in the next 30 min.

How often does that happen?... not often, but 2 days ago after we got back from SD, I hear the tripwire go off, and an unmarked white van is pulling up to my drive. I grabbed my Glock 43, and watched some dude just sit there in the drivers seat for about 45 seconds. He then steps out with a FedEx uniform on, and opens a door to grab a package for me... how the hell was I supposed to know it was FedEx in an unmarked van? @Wattzzup ... you do know there are multiple choices of emoji reactions right? That's the only one I ever see you post.

I think this bit is hyperbole.

The 120-year-old Springfield rifle carries more energy farther than the new thing, and at all ranges. An officer (heck, even enlisted) in body armor at 1000 yards will likely not be injured unless the shot hits unprotected flesh.

We’re not facing a step up in lethality.

I’m not saying this to exonerate the new gun. However, the AR in its multiple civilian elaborations is something I’d choose over it for a number of reasons, were I planning something awful.
One of the main reasons the AR style rifle is so popular is the price of ammo. It's a smaller caliber 223 vs 30 06 vs 308. Simple math, larger caliber ammo is more expensive to produce. Not to mention actually producing the AR style rifle. Most of the knockoffs are garbage compared to the Colt model.

equals greater expenses

I hear the same thing from folks who live in remote areas of Oregon. Can't call for help when the nearest "help" is a half hour away. So, yes, in that situation, it's completely reasonable to carry your own help. I don't know if its true where you live but some pretty sketchy people find they prefer to live in remote places.

OTOH, did you not expect a Fedex delivery?
