WTF is multi-vapor?

A friend of mine had given me 3 big ass lights all 400w and like 4' round hoods. the ballasts dont say what kind they are but all the bulbs say multi-vapor. I have heard of mercury vapor and that they suck for growing, is multi-vapor the same? Can I use them with hps or mh bulbs?

As far as I know its just another name for them

The quartz arc tube contains Mercury together with Sodium, and Halides of Sodium, Thallium, Indium and Dysprosium. To obtain further improvements in colour Halides of Rare Earth metals are used.

The principle of operation is that each metallic vapour participating in the electric discharge produces its own colour spectrum covering the entire visible range. Hence, there is necessary to add multiple halides of metal to be called as Metal Halide Lamps or Multi-Vapour lamps.

Yeah it helped a little. So it is basically a mh ballast with a multi-vapor bulb? Is the multi-vapor good for veg like the mh? Can I use hps bulbs in it? Or use hps conversion bulbs? Just dont wanna burn my damn house down ya know! lol Can I grow with it???

As far as I know Multi vapour simply mean Metal hallide just a different name for it. I simply googled this mullti vapour thing when I saw you unanswered thread for you as a favour for something to do coz I was really stoned :), I have no idea about it really, at a guess it prob just takes MH bulbs, it would have a switch on it if it was suitable for hps and MH.
MH is suitable for the veg stage of growth. High in the kelvins prob 10,000 plus or something, where as hps is maybe 2500k.
I just finished my first grow and have never known about grow llights until a few months ago so I'm not too much help.. hopefully more experienced growers can help.
Have a good look on google, it only took me a minute to find what I did, if you spend more time you may have more luck mate :)
If you really want more answers post another thread worded differently... maybe something like "are multi vapour lights better than MH" lol, some smart arse will soon start telling you they are the same thing, then ask him more questions because he will be happy to help because of his ego from proving you wrong lol

haha thanx man. I will try that, I just thought all these growers on here may have a good idea or actually used them or something ya know! Thanx for the favor, I think i will try it out for the hell of it just to see what happens!

Did you ever try the bulb out? Im curious if it works for growing or not i just acquired a whole box of them for free.

Yeah me too every time you tried to look up Google for something relating to lights and light bulbs it directs you to Amazon or Ebay or walmart somewhere buy the bulb..I have the same issue...
