ok so heres my sorry situation.
the other day i woke to my dog going nuts outside. when he wouldnt be quiet from me hollering i decided to go take a look.
when i got to the front door i heard "POLICE ..... POLICE"
well hell this cant be good i think .... but they arent kicking the door in nor are they knocking.
so i go outside and ask WTF do you want?
he asks if my alarm went off ... i said i dont have an alarm.
he says "is this 12345 111 ave ct" "
i says no its 12345 111 ave. NOT ave ct.
the house you want is 3 blocks that way ... you see this is common for me to get their mail and vise versa.
anyways he leaves but after he does i realise he had been in my garage. he didnt see the grow room only the ventilation system for it. and a very mild smell.
i chopped and tossed everything on the spot not knowing if he could get a warrant since he was at the wrong house and shouldnt have been in my garage.
what do you think ?? its been a week and noones been back.
should i wait longer or restart my grow ?
can he even get a warrant based on the fact that he thought he was at the right place and thought a crime was in progress ... supposed burglary at the other address. or will a judge tell him he is shit out of luck because he had no business in my garage since it wasnt the right address and there definatly was no alarm going off ?

im 99% sure he saw a ventilation system and smelled some mild skunk.
no way he got into the actual grow room it was locked tight.
but seeing the vents and fans and the smell im surewould be enough to get a warrant if the judge allowed what he saw as evidence.
this just blows..
the good news is i did manage to get 2 cuttings that wer just ready to go into flower over to a buddies grow. so my genetics are safe.
hes just gonnahold em in his veg room til im ready to roll again.
which may be a ways off now

he went in the garage because it was there ... no ideawhy. the grow room is off the back of the garage and only the vents pass thru a small portion of the garage.
the side door of the garage was locked and booted in.
the actual grow room was locked tight and not disturbed

no pics sorry but waht he saw was 2 15 foot runs of 6 inch dryer vent with 424 cfm inline fans going to a y pipe and out the back wall of the garage.
however when i went in i noticed i could smell my grow very mildly from a leak in 1 hose. not sure why the brand new carbon filter ... which is in the grow room wasnt killing the smell completely.
so basically he saw nothing but vent hose and fans but smelled marijuana im sure. unless hes an idiot

I would definitely stop growing till next year. They could be watching your house right now and have a warrant to look at your power. They can't prove anything from the past but they may wait till they see spikes again and then bust you.

Or you could just be high and paranoid. Either way you're better safe than sorry.

Like everyone is saying, It is better to be safe than sorry. Not sure if you rent/own but it might not be a bad idea to chill out for a while (8 to 12 months) and then set up shop somewhere else. I have heard horror stories of people thinking they were safe after something similar and as soon as shit was up and going again, there was trouble.

Re: The Warrant
If the police make a mistake and show up at your place and see something illegal in "plain view" then they can seize it immediately. Alternatively, they could tell a judge what they saw and get a search warrant. The information used to get a warrant must be relatively "fresh," so the police cannot smell marijuana in October and come back and bust your place in January using the same evidence. It would be in your best interest to shut that shit down for a while then move somewhere else, if you can.

Cops do weird things though. My buddy in Cali had state/federal officers from different agencies show up at his place for different reasons unrelated to him - doing a govt. background check on a former neighbor, apartment complex evacuated during domestic dispute w/ a gun, etc. Each time my buddy had just finished smoking and set his bong down on his kitchen counter, heard a knock at the door, and opened the door for the police. Apparently, one time he opened the door to the local police and they began coughing (jokingly) and wafting the smoke away. But they didn't "bust" him - they just told him his neighbors were fighting with guns and he had to get out. He has a medical marijuana card but none of the cops ever asked for it. The Feds doing the background check said something like "You should put away your marijuana next time before you open the door for the police."

But seriously, get that shit out of there. It is no longer safe for you to grow there.

The police depend on where you live. For example, I live in a pretty liberal area that recently lowered the penalty for marijuana posesion. probably 80-70% of cops won't care if there's a bong in your house that they can see or maybe even in your yard. Anyway, your probably good (although I would like to hear some horror stories) depending on where you live. If I were a cop some ones garage and saw some air ducting I wouldn't be thinking anything like "gotcha", I probably wouldn't think anything of it. As for the smell, could it be mistaken for just general garage smell? Furthermore, if your garage door was closed I'm 99% sure that they can't get a warrant.

P.S. I's secertely a cop
