would you look at that? just look at it.

The key words are, "in a truly free society." How do we get that?
By wishing it into existence. A little action may help.

True story: had a friend who grew up in communist east europe. He told me he was freer their than here. For example, when a kid he used to pick apples and other fruit in the countryside. A 10 yr old alone. Cops would show up to make sure he was okay. Western societies have enshrined private property -no more 'commons'- it's all about 'mine' and 'yours'. Individual liberty taken to an extreme means the collective 'we' is unfree, so to speak. Just an observation.

Exactly. So maybe this isn't a binary type thing, like you said? Maybe communism/socialism(collectivism) nor capitalism(individualism) are the answer, but something else entirely?

Bang on CS! Both taken to extremes are 'problematic' to say the least. btw, i fucking 'hate' that word, though it is useful.

The modern welfare state is the 'shit'. It works. However, it does need finessing and it helps if the business community doesn't try to destroy it.

Good example: the Dutch. Those guys would try to sell you your own teeth. They simultaneously have one of the freest markets in the world with taxation, re-distribution, etc. Great economy. Excellent social safety net. It is a reasoned attempt at equality of opportunity, social justice, etc. They are rarely in the news as good news does not sell.
btw, they are not the only example.

I wasn't really thinking of taking part of capitalism and part of communism and then making a hybrid. Both are flawed and implementing parts from both will result in yet another flawed system. Somehow the negation of each system need to be looked at and implement based on that.

You are missing my point completely. The modern welfare state is the intermediate between the extremes. Extremes don't work. History proves this. A reasonably free economy, with taxation and re-distribution (ie. social safety net), mitigates the extremes of either. It's the 'best-worst' system there is. It minimizes human suffering. It's not perfect.

You seem to be looking for something that has yet to come into existence. It will develop organically. The impetus will probably be crisis related/idea inspired. They often go hand in hand.

I really liked that video, but have to wonder, since it seemed like an all white neighborhood, maybe part of the "reactions" was due to opposite race, like what if they setup something the reverse in a mostly black neighborhood? still hilarious

I didn't miss the point, because I don't agree with a lot of what you believe, sorry.

Taxing is theft, re-distribution is therefore still theft.

You're right though, what I want doesn't exist, and if thoughts like yours persist, may never happen.

I don't have any problems with a fee system. If you use a road and make money, you pay a fee. If you use it for leisure, less fee to no fee. Others buy your product, so the tax would be built into the product automatically. That way you don't pay for taxes you don't agree with, like when we play Team America World Police.

I would like to see the news crew run the exact same "experiment" in Douglas Park, in Chicago. I grew up about two blocks away. If they did, I would suggest that they hire at least 6 six actors for the "white burglar" role, as they are likely to lose a few in the process.

Here is a picture of the "lagoon" in Douglas Park.

oh. i get it. you're a radical, right wing extremist who has no concept of how govt works or anything gets done. Now I understand. Good luck with that.
I'm actually more liberal than the dude who just liked your post.

He's closer to what you just said. I'm in no way right wing unless you include pro-life. But then I'm also anti-war, anti-capital punishment, pro-gay, animal rights, environmentalist. So yeah, totally right wing extremist!

Wanting us to go back to a simpler way natural way of life when government didn't fuck with us is right wing radical!

A "communist" lifestyle would be cool, but only if you can opt out and live like John Muir or Henry Thoreau. Yep, those two dudes were extreme right wing radicals!

Sorry. My bad. Please continue.

It's just you kinda lost me with the whole tax is theft thing. I view it differently. I view it as my contribution to a 'chaos prevention' fund. Not a big fan of chaos. Neither are most who've seen it.

Just a thought.

There are other ways than taxing. You can pay as you go, and pay "taxes" on what you buy. Through a modified version of a VAT. Having a huge slush fund general tax is just asking for corruption. There needs to be more of a transparency which Obama brags about he's doing, but not coming close to. It gives me a bad taste in my mouth knowing part of my contribution is used for this:
