Would this work for growing?

Hey all

my current outdoor grow has started switching to flowering now. What i am wondering, since i live in southern california, and never have to worry about frost(hasnt snowed here in like 15 years, and we get a few minutes of hail at most once every 3-4 years), after harvest in september, would i still be able to put plants outside and they would basically grow their life similar to an indoor 12/12 plant from start? I would probably start the new seedlings a few weeks before my harvest so it would be 6 mature plants, and 6 immature to be within the mmj legal guidelines. I could also start the plants indoors close to harvest time, and throw them outdoors to flower if that would work.

I know the yield wouldnt be the greatest, but i was thinking that would be an option instead of using an autoflower variety, and to allow for another harvest.
Well, so, would that work? Or would i be better off getting some auto seeds

Starting them indoors then throwing them outside during winter is a good way to get yourself an extra harvest or two =)

Try and find yourself some strain of purple, make use of the low temps. GDP does real well winter time around here.

great idea using the cool temps to make the purple strains actually purple, haha. I will remember that cause a local dispensary always stocks purple extreme(purple erkle x xxx skunk) and another one usually has GDP. I will also probably pick up a bubba kush cause i have seen those turn purple often in cold temps.

research photoperiod flowering, before you get your feelings hurt.
dude wasnt kidding when he said start them indoors.....

You can not start them outside at this time of year and have any veg period, they will go straight to flower. I grow year round outside but I have a little veg room I move them in and out of every day. I do this to keep the light cycle up for veg but get the full benefit of the sun. I cycle out about 4 to 6 plants every two months using this method and it has worked great for 2 years now. I keep my plants on 18/6 this way and sit them outside and leave them when I am ready to flower. LOL I am using a shower stall to veg them in at night and it works great for up to 6 plants in a 3 gallon container. Good Luck

Heres a good question, how do you grow bud on the equator where its 12/12 year round?

I am frost free. I will start a couple under a 400W MH at 18/6, then bung them outside for flowering in mid winter, when days are shortest. Maybe get an extra small harvest - good thing is nobody else will have any round here.

I'm in NorCal and will be doing a couple projects in my greenhouses, as well(we do get an occasional frost.)

Wise use of photoperiods will get you a nice winter harvest.

Looser and lighter than summer buds, they still smoke great!

Well to that question I can help. I live at 8 degrees north so I am pretty darn close. Indicas are tougher here except in the springtime and like to flower early here. Sativas are very light sensitive and notices the most minute changes in light periods. After the 21st of June when the days start to get shorter I simply put my girls into the veg room each day to give them more hours of light. This works great and has other benefits when the weather is nasty (live at 6500ft), get lots of violent storms and winds that can last for days. This system also works great when you want to flower as the day lengthens on in reverse I put them in there each early to give them less light. Guess it all depends on the amount of work you are willing to do...Happy Growing

I've been playing around with my greenhouse all year, it's a semi-frustrating blast. It does open up a world of possibilities if you think outside the box! I've been running a perpetual cycle using supplemental lighting and a pop up PE film tent i built inside the greenhouse. Nothing but nice frosty rock hard buds so far. Can't wait till next year, now that I've got my methods figured out it's time to start experimenting!

Love your garden by the way, inspired me to try running a couple revegs.

@sixer bubba is a pretty tough plant too, sounds like another good choice.

thanks for all the replies guys, im really stoked this will be possible and i won't have to go with autoflowers. I will start vegging indoors and get about a month veg using cfl's most likely closer to harvest, or maybe buy a MH light if i can find a nice deal on one for vegging, or convince a friend to just veg a few plants for me and save me the hassle, lol

Now comes the hard part and try to decide on what strains to grow for this plan, lol. I am currently growing OC bubba kush(supposed to be a nice phenotype of bubba), cherry phenotype ak-47, 2 og kush, and nirvana northern lights. I will most likely pick up another clone or two of bubba kush for the winter grow and maybe cherry ak depending on how it looks closer to harvest. It has branched out nicely, and been just going through nutes like crazy without burning(accidentally fed it double strength nutes for 2 weeks with no burn), and have seen some pictures of it turning purple, so maybe it would with a winter grow.
