Well CFL dont penetrate as well as HID. For 4-6 plants I think you would want more then 6. those 6 would be great for the tops.
but buy some lesser watt ones at wal-mart or somewhere for the sides.

6500k for veg, 2700k for flower

Those are 6500k

Yes those would be good to add.

and yes you would need more bulbs for flower. 2700k
the more the more dense the buds will be.

before you buy. do the math, make sure it doesn't equal up to where you could juts buy a HID (:

WOw, I really can not beleive people have to ask some of these questions!.......$40 for a 105watt cfl.... you can get 26 watt cfls's for $7.00 a pair! thats 104 watts for $14.00! why would you want to spend 3-4X that much for the same amount of light??

Just go to home depot and Buy a few of these. 68 watt 2700 k CFL. They're the size of grapefruit, but they produce 4200 lumens and fit into a standard light socket. Lowes sells them as well.

Edit: I forgot to mention they cost $15 a piece.

I'm with lakewood here, for that many plants i say go hid, more efficient than loadsa cfls and better penetration

Dula: what little I've learned about growing with CFL's is that you can have them as close as an inch or two but they don't penetrate into the shade of the foliage like HID's. With CFL's you'll get flowering on top but not much action below with out side lighting or reflectors.

I opted for Mylar covered reflectors aimed to reflect and recycle the light back up to the normally shaded portions of the plants. They worked like a charm. I got buds in my Aerogardens all the way down to the planting deck. Something to think about. HSA
