yeah its general good idea to do that...i do mix 48% peat moss and 48% perlite with little 2% garden soil for good branching, plus mix with blood and bone meals and seedling looks fine not got burnt anything like that so your recipe is good to me !
I would wait to add castings. Once the seeds have sprouted and have a true leaf then I would use a weak EWC tea. Then when you transplant add EWC to the soil if you want, I do.
the guy at my local hydro store just told me earlier today to start from seedling in:, half high porosity growing medium and half wormcastings ... and I am gonna give it a try!
You don't want to put them in straight, or even mostly straight castings. Castings are real dense and make root penetration hard on the plant, especially young seedling roots. I mix in no more than 25% castings to my soil mixes. You wanna really break up any hard chunks. I sift mine thru a piece of hardware cloth. (1/4" "screen")
And no, I don't believe they'll burn them. But seedlings dont really need any added nutrition until the cotyledons are depleted
Hello my friend, for that little one with the white fungus, mist lightly with a mix of 3% peroxide and water. Just had the same thing on a Sannie Jack, the mix is 1/4 cup peroxide to liter of water. I know you don't need but a bit but that is the only safe solution I know without doing the math for less. Best of luck on your baby.
I use castings in my soil mix as well as seedlings but not at that rate. Castings aren't cheap. MB too much N for little guys that don't need it at that stage. Although I think the N is totally organic and not chemical so it prolly won't burn.
The best Birthing system I EVER had was planting my seeds in my worm farm. This consist of 1 Kitty Pool, w/ drainage holes, nearly filled with cow & rabbit manure, 1/2 lb's of Red Wigglers. After 6 months, the "soil" was ready.
