wonderin about a "good" way to dry my buds

just finishing my first grow and was wondering if you can dry to good smokability by just hanging? I have been reading about putting it in jars (which sounds like a pain in the ass) and drying then "curing"? what exactly is curing? I knew a guy about 70 years old who grows medically and he just dried and put his bud in a plastic coffee can and it was pretty tasty and stoney, but I dont remember him ever saying anything about curing.

Oh I'm not too worried about time. I'm not a seller just a smoker. just looking for some advice on what to do when I chop to get some good/decent smoke.

You hang dry for 4-7 days then cure them in glass, air-tight mason jars.

Curing is basically evenly distributing the moisture still retained in the center of the bud throughout the bud. This evenly dries the buds. Curing also allows organic molecules like chlorophyll to further break down and decompose.

A proper cure can take anywhere from 3 weeks to two months. But you'll see the difference even after a week!

along with genetics a proper drying and curing will make the buds much better and dank compared to the schwag you get off the streets that is mass produced for commercial sale. the cure will make the buds smoke and taste better along with it getting more potent. i agree with what sandmonkey said. although i have heard of a much longer dry time before the cure but i have never had to hang them for more than a week due to my location they seem to dry too fast so they go into jars sooner so i can try and slow down the process. just need to check them often so they dont get mold.

Open jars daily, dump out nugs, re-jar.

After 2-4 weeks your bud will smell and taste WAY better.

No self respecting dispensary would sell un-cured nugs.

really 2-4 weesk, after a week of hang... damn................ uhh.. well is the smoke THAT much better I mean I smoke quite a bit of grass when I get stoned and havent found much of a difference. will the cured shit turn a 5-6 hit strain to a 1-2 hit?

if I jar with glass does It matter what Kind Of lid I use

probly wont make it that much more potent but it will taste and smell a lot better.

you want it to be air tight jars. i use the jars with the glass lid and have a wire bail that latches closed along with a rubber gasket.

I'll try if I can but not sure. I was going for a cheap alternative but.... I'll just have to see what I can find. but If I can't find any jars for Instance fro what I can afford which sadly isnt much if any whats the best way to dry and "cure"

Greenhouse seeds co I hear cures their buds over a course of like six months.

I dont care to do that personally. Dry til it is dry mildly crisp on the outside and then transfer to any air tight glass vessel. If you really want to be G put some nitrous in with that shit to keep it fresher for longer.

dude if i could get my hands onsome nitrous id put it in my truck for special occasions, haha. But yea 6 months...? fuck that. I'll have 3 crops done by then... not gonna waste time curing other than a week or two

remove all fan leaves before drying,heard a fan will cut drying time in half.curing helps moisture spread out evenly through buds.

I mean to be frank I'm poor And spent what $ I had on a lighting/fan setup which did ok for a noob's standards I think I'll get 2-3oz. out of my 2 plants. And really despite the great advice I've gotten (weather I'll take it or not I'm not sure, not doubting) I might do both depending what I find at wal mart I guess (i've seen jars like decribed before) I'm growing two unknown strains which I call green and purple, so I guess I'll just see what happens

hmm.. thats another wonder should I cut the leaves off before drying or just drythe leaves with the bud

and what are everyones thoughts of lights off before cut

drying with fan leaves on gives the buds a shitty taste.
