Withering buds

Yeah - this happened on my last grow and one time before. When the buds were growing after say 3-4 weeks and looking good, the white hairs suddenly dried up on one or two buds, then like the next couple of days all the hairs on all the buds turned brown and died. Then the entire buds turned brown and dried out. Mostly the leaves looked ok. In fact I took one of the plants and stuck it outside and even though it's November the weather is mild and some new buds have formed though the old brown buds are still there. The other plant I pulled because it got attacked later and it had a lot more good bud growth.

So what is it? Some sort of fungus? Mold?

Also, there were three or four little white gnats flying around but I think they were from a basil plant i had in the room not really from the ganj.

Sounds like a pest of some sort. Or there is something in your room causing this. What is your temp and humidity levels?? What type of growing? Soil or dro? This sounds very strange. Do you have pics?

Gnat larvae are probably eating the fine hair roots in your soil, they can also transmit plant diseases.
I usually leave a small dish of molasses mixed with a small amount of water out in the room near the pots and the adult fly into the dish to feed and can not get out again.
This will eventually get rid of them all:peace::joint:

I have some pics somewhere . . . *sigh* . . . but they weren't very good pictures. Geez! Could it really be larva in the soil?

Also, I am too lax about temps in the room and anyway the grow is already over. But I would have estimated the temps to be 65-70 degrees and not that humid.

After reading on another site it sounds to me like mildew . . . I was spraying the plants w/ water a lot. Maybe that was a bad move. But the reason I say mildew is cause the top bud in the first plant seemed to be the first one affected. The site I described said that would be the case. But still I am shocked that mildew would happened that fast.

Why is it so hard to grow healthy bud!!!!?!?!?!? GRRRRR

OK - I'll look for those pics . . . .

I think you found the culprit. Do NOT spray your buds. Once you start flowering do not spray. Try another round and keep your humidity at 40% or less in flower only feed the soil. Actually.. why not try out the hempy bucket method? No soil to deal with and it works like a charm. I just got a complete NOOB started on the hempy bucket method and she is doing fine with them. (she killed a whole crop quickly in soil due to many factors).
