Wiring cfl Q, help appreciated

ok so ive just bought a 125w red spec eco-light, and as i understand they are self-ballasted. my Q is...

i have an E40 fitting here and im wondering if i can just add a couple feet of cable and a socket to the end and plug it in with my new cfl?
would i need an additional ballast? ive had a search around and cant seem to find much info.. and i dont wanna blow my new bulb right away!!

no you dont need an additional ballast.just wire it up like a regular light socket and plug it in. observe all safe wiring practices.

oh!! 1 more thing.. i was wondering about earthing this. any ideas?

i always like to make my connections inside a junction box, and that socket makes it tough. so i would mount that socket to a metal cover and somehow get the wires inside. put a cord into the box and wire up the light and ground the box.
if you insist on just connecting the wires without a box ( not advisable ) at least connect the ground wire to that metal plate the socket is on.
