Hi guys, i am working on a new room and since it's in a old house wich there is old fuse style main panel, i will have to figure out if i can and how to wire a sub from this main. The room is located right about 2 or 3 feet of the main panel so there won't be much disstance between the sub and the main.

Here is a picture of the main panel.

My questions are;

1: Is a new sub-panel can be wired to this old fuse type main panel?

2: If so, What equippement i will need to run approx 3500watts wich include 2x 1000w lamps? And how to do it?

* i read many 'how to install a sub panel' but there is nothing explain about this old beater main panel i have to deal with.

Thanks in advance.

I don't see a picture, but if your main panel can support the power that you'd need for your subpanel and room, I don't see why not.

first you have to find how many amps your main panel can handle

second you need to find out how many amps your house is currently running

third you have to find out how many amps your g room is going to use including all small appliances into the equation, they add up.

after you have done this then you can tell if your current panel can handle everything.

ohhhh....that looks like it coud be a bit of a task. most older houses i beleive pre 60's or so has whats called knob and tube wiring. its not like the single cable runing from one junction to another. its a series of wires 1 neg and 1 pos that travel throught the walls from one knob to another. the knob is a ceramic insulated metal stake in the stud. it is possible to run a new service from an older service it just takes a little more experience and knowhow than just running new romex from a 50a sub to a room:joint:
