Will "topping" a plant cause it to hermie?

I tried to introduce a couple more strains into my collection and I have no idea where I went wrong to cause the seeds to hermie. The only stress I know they went through was when I cut their heads off. They weren't big enough to have a viable clone so I took their head for one. None of them even wilted, let alone came close to dying tho.

Could topping them been the cause of the hermie? Or do you guys think it was bad genetics? Three seeds hermied out of five, all of which were "topped" for a clone (1 White Widow, 1 Skunk#11 didn't hermie, 2 seeds of Power Plant, and 1 Purple#1 hermie'd, all from Dutch Passion).

I doubt it was Dutch Passions fault..but anything is possible. But topping wrong/topping will cause enough stress to hermie.=[

What?? No. Topping will not cause a hermi. cell mutation will, diploid gametes will..FEMD SEEDS ARE THE WORST, so be careful.

Topping during veg shouldn't cause hermaphroditism. Stress-induced hermaphroditism happens when male flowers pop up on a flowering female after stress is applied. If the plant was already a hermie when flowering began, it's probably not anything you did. In the past, we've had seeds and vegging plants that went through lots of problems before flowering, some that nearly died, but showed no male flowers because the stress didn't happen during flowering.

Well I actually caused my plants to hermie on my first grow with too much nutrients. I didn't know they hermied until I found a couple seeds when smoking and they still produced awesome buds. These on the other hand are my new seeds and are starting to grow truck nuts under their pistols. I switched them to 12 hours just over two weeks ago, on Jan 1st. I've never seen this before, but online pics confirm they're definitely hermies.

did you do it during veg or flower? In truth though it doesnt matter which one they were in. I have topped and supercropped all kind of plants in flowering(i like to have some experimental plants around to figure out/test things) and i never once have had a hermie because of it.

Last grow I had a couple of taller plants so I topped them twice and they both came out males the other 7 plants that were topped once were all females!!! Maybe they were males to begin with that why they were taller? Or they didn't like being put in shock twice. I top in the second week of veg make sure it get a week or two of good growth before you switch to flower!

I did it the night I switched to 12 hour, so Veg you could say. The white pistols just started showing a couple days ago, and I just now noticed the little sacs on the nodes alhtough they probably started a couple days ago too and I just didn't notice them.

So if i plant a feminized seed lst it and top is after 2 weeks veg and then let it grow for another 2 weeks and switch to 12/12, would that lead to a hermie due to the lst and high stress training from the topping? because i'm planning on planting 6 feminized seeds and if that will increase the chance of a hermie, i aint gonna bother.

Stress causesd in veg shouldn't matter. The only reason I questioned it was because I topped them the day I switched them to 12/12, so it was borderline. But keep in mind that some fems are hermies from day one and there's nothing you can do.

I'm getting my fems from serious seeds and big buddah so these seeds should be quality fems. Otherwise i'm fucked lol
