well much to my disappointment the temps contiued to rise throughout the night and this morning when I woke up the water temps are at 93*!!! man this feedtube system I get the feeling is harming me more than helping me...and to top it off when I was fucking around with the tubes i hit one with my elbow and it moved the cardboard disc way over and ch0pped the head off nearly, this morning it...well lets say it didnt recover from it so now Im down to 11 plants out of 16 I wanted and man I'm feeling very discouraged about this. I didnt sleep well last night because my brain was going crazy with thoughts about this. I've decided I'm going to do some modifications today and also shut down the pumps and then only turn them on a few times a day. So far this has been a pretty bumpy experience and obviously I'm still trying to work out the kinks but my next grow will go that much better because of it so whatev, i'll just keep truckin here. I'll post some pics of what I did today later.

No offense man but I hope that you can remember me saying this oh how long ago? A few weeks now? I hope you will eventually learn that the little dripper thing is useless and does not have enough pro's over cons. Without the water pump your rez temps would have stayed lower and plants would not have been bothered much. Ditch the water pump as I said weeks ago bud

I wrote that just for you tom. I still do not have my mind made up about this, I still think from what I read that the feeder tubes may shave a little bit of time of a reg dwc...IF you could keep the water temp down in the res. Its been fucked from the start I just got my thermo for the water yesterday so obviously I've been growing in hot water the whole damn time!! Its to late to try to FIX the problem so I'm just shutting down the pumps until further notice, I probably wont use them much but I am going to leave them in and hooked up to the dripper system as I originally planned so I can get use them being there cuz the next time around will be much better.

Your rez' are black right? That is another reason why they are getting so hot, black absorbs light/heat so combining that with the water pump I can see how it got that high
Have you ever seen that shiny metal repair tape at your local hardware store? It is like 10 bucks a roll but if you wrap your rez with it and cover the top around the holes than you will have much lower rez temps. Here is a link: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=237722-56131-142334&lpage=none

One roll should be more than enough to wrap a rez so two rolls should do the trick to cover both
That will most def help w/ the rez temps, I had similar totes that were black and after I wrapped the tote with the tape it dropped temps a noticeable bit

yea black of all colors but they were on sale so thats why I got em. Yea I've seen people with that stuff b4, Im about to make a run for some goods so I'll pick sum up for sure, just the top you say or the whole thing?

I would do the whole thing, but the most important part is the top so that most of the light will be reflected off the rez instead of absorbed by it

I guess we'll see how much the hardware store sells that tape for if its cheap enough I'll do the whole things, obviously it wont hurt. that'll be my project for the day. I'll post pics when done. thanks tom

Hey Volcom,

sorry to hear about the heat still being high. how big are your pumps? I have the the little 66gph pump which was the smallest i could find with the airpump mounted on a shelf so as not to be heated by the light and my res has stayed cool so far. That tape looks like a good idea so that the black will not be absorbing so much light. Im not having any problems yet but I am in the desert so my next grow it is going to be a lot hotter.

I had the same problem with the pump heating up my res. I ended up doing what you said, running it for about an hour 3 or 4 times a day and it didn't heat up the water at all.

Well heres what got done today, I dropped the hub down becasue the cords were just up and all over and poppin out all the time...it was a mess, so I dropped it down and cut the tubes to center and put on dripper elbows, you can see the one in the back sits up higher in the first pic. shit worked out pretty slick and I also got some fancy foam discs that really set it off! lol the tubes may look the same to you in the pics but man its night and day how easy they are now. My pumps have been off all day and while I was working on stuff the water got down to 88, I put everything back in order and my water temp is right back up there!!!! im sittin at 91* right now...AND my water pumps are not even running...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the last pic is my contender, just a sneak peek for ya tom.

Looking nice man
Is there anyway you could do a rez change? Or maybe add some cold water to the rez?
Once it cools off it should stay cooler with the shiny lids you got now haha

I just did a res change yesterday so I dont really wanna do that, nor would help, I had the temps down to 88 and they have only gone up since I've put the lids on. I have a feeling its just the temps in the room making the water warm, its 79 above my lights and 87 below my lights and my lights at sitting about 5 inches above my hubs. I need to get air moving out somehow, I guess that will be my project for tomorrwow.

Yes 87°F is way too high, I don't like to get over 80°F myself
Do you have an exhaust fan? Are you willing to cut any holes in the wall?

cutting holes in walls is not an option here lol. Basically just leave the door cracked a few inches for air exchange I have two 4 inch fans blowin; one over each res and one is blowing from one way and one is blowing the other, my thought was to get air swirling on the out but I must have it backwards....its swirlin on the in maybe. so tomorrow Im going to get a tower fan and turn it cross ways as to blow over both reservoirs at once and then move the two fans up onto the shelf blowin air towards the doorway...

Moving air around isn't really going to help much...
You need to suck the heat out, not throw it around some more
Hmmm not really sure what you can do here.... adding another fan in there isn't going to get the temps to a good range unless it is sucking the heat out

well I added a fan to my shelf blowing air towards the door and that brings my temps down to 80 above the lights and 81.6 under the lights. but my water temp is up to 96.8* So now the only other thing I can think of doing is cooling my water and I dont like the idea of sticking buttles of ice in the res or much of anything for that matter so what I've decided Im going to do is build a radiator for each res. Each radiator will be hooked up to a pump constantly circulating ice cold water through the tubes and then back in to the cooler. The water will be two shelves above my lights in a cooler so It should stay plenty cold for awhile...drop in two gatorade bottles of solid ice and see what happens. cuz my pumps obviously are not the issue. The issue is the small space closet with no light so i cant vent shit other than the door being open. i tooke an incent and held it near the open door, air is being drawin in from the bottom and going out the top, with the extra fan I have sped this process up but I think that the space is so small there isnt enough space for these two reservoirs to operate at a comfortable water temps. Next idea: radiator......and we go back to the name of the thread will this work!? I've been asking myself this the whole time. But I feel like I am getting things figured out

Cool idea on the incense dude
I think that radiator idea should work well, if the rez temps stay nice and cold than the room temps will not matter nearly as much
Get those roots to like 64-68°F and the temps in your room now will be no problem for the plants
The roots are what matter the most, though if it were like 90°F in your room constantly than there might be a problem
81°F will be fine though

hey thanks tom, yea those were my same thoughts, the room temps seem to be pretty stable, its 79 up top and 80 under the lights now...I think the cooling of the water will even help the cooling of the room as well.
