Will lots of ice cool my room enough?

On Tuesday there is a planned power cut... nothing i can do. My plants are going to be 4 days away from harvesting.

I have found a 3500 w generator for rent, so that takes care of having a light running on low, a dehum if needed and some fans. However My ac unit is mainlined into my mains, so i'm not knowledgable enough to be able to connect that.

So I'm wondering if it's worth sticking tens of kilos of bags of ice in the room for the 5 hours or so the electric is off? The room will easy hit 29c on a hot day, and as its the last week, I'm trying to keep it around 21c.

Just don't run your lights the day you can't run climate control. The plants won't be hurt by a day of dark. Turn the lights on for 3 or 4 hrs in the morning and then just go dark the rest of the day

I had debated this... 3 hours in the morning and about 3 in the afternoon when its back... its more the temps scaring me!

Don't do multiple short sessions. Just let them come on in the morning. When power cut happens kill your lights and just use electricity for air flow and you will be good till the next day. They will enjoy the day of good respiration.

I mean i can run it all day no problem tbh, not my issue... the temperature is

The outside temp can hit 30 celcius, the led doesnt warm things up that much, especially as i'll dim it right down, and i can also power fans, and a water fan that i load with ice. Just thinking how i can lower the ambient temp also

No. You will have a huge mess. It won't last long enough to provide the function you want, you'll over work your dehumidifier and probably incubate some kinda mold
4 days is not that consequential. And 4 days is not enough time for major changes to happen as a response to a single stress event.
If it was me, I would either harvest Monday before the outage or let it ride though.

He might electrocute the linemen working nearby on the power lines during the outage though! :-o

A transfer switch is needed to solve that problem, but I don't think a 3500 watt generator will cut it anyway..

I have never noticed a few days making any difference in harvest. Why not just chop them 4 days early? Honestly that's what I'd do, assuming they were ready. Sounds like a lot of expense and work. Pics of your plants?

if the power is only going to be off for 5 hours....i would just leave everything as is and keep it moving, ya know?
that's just an extra long nap.

I figure drying in the heat for the first day is worse than them being able to somewhat defend themself from it while living! Also i have scheduled my final finishing, fade and flush and that's too soon. Ok here's a pic from my phone but will take proper ones next week, as this strain tends to swell in the last days (Tropicanna Cherry)

A lot can go wrong in a stuffy room with no power or ventilation on a hot day in 5 hours, whether or not you harvested them first. I can see the concern..

we've had power out for 8ish hours in the hot summer (80* f) after a storm. the house really doesn't get too hot until about 4 hours in. cutting a/c and letting the temps raise is different than running a heating unit and forcing in hot air.
i dunno. this seems like the toss of a coin. either harvest early and let the cut stuff get warm for a couple of hours, or just let it ride. i would do the latter.

Looks to me like you need more like 2 weeks than 4 days. Seeing what I see I'd just give them 3-4 hours of light like @ProPheT 216 suggested and shut it down until the next day. In the Mojave Desert where I grow I've done that for a few days. Good luck on this follow up on what you did too.

If you had a long enough length of ducting (and maybe a booster fan), you can run it all the way out to your car in the driveway, and tape it all up to the air vents. Pump in fresh conditioned air all the way into the grow room to help keep the plants cooler. ;-)

Probably more effecient than a couple DIY hillbilly ice box cooler ACs. They do work though! Haha

Great idea but the grow room is 2nd floor, round the back of the house away from the car port! Metal ducting would be boiling by the time the air travelled around 30 meters or so lol. But that is a good idea if you could park next to the window!

If your 4 days from harvest, I wouldnt sweat the temp at all. Even worst case you could harvest early.

years back leaving them them dark the last couple was a thing and I’ve never really had any issues with flowers run that way

I've had bulbs blow and been without any light for a day or two in flower and the plants never missed a beat. I wouldn't turn the lights on at all the day of the outage and instead focus on keeping up the airflow and maintaining as good of an environment as possible
