Will 8 40 watt CFLS work?

Will 8 40 watt cfls work for a plant that will be in a 5 gallon pot?

Right now I am aiming for 3 feet while my plant is in veg and once it hits that I will either decide to keep as a mother or to flower.

So will 8 of these 40 2700k bulbs work? Or will I need some more or something stronger?

If you haven't already bought them you can pick up 2 or 3 300 watt CFLs for about the same money at your local electrical supply or home store. Also grab some parabolic light reflectors, about $10-15 each. So for about 100 bones you could rock out with 900 watts... something to think about.

Also, instead of using 2700K try finding CFLs in the 5000k + range, better for the Veg. save your 2700k for the bud stage. It WILL make an enormous difference.
If you want some top notch CFLs though, check out http://www.stealthhydro.com/

Yes, 8 is more than enough. Check out Seemore Buds book about growing with CFLs if you can find it

That is roughly what Garden Knowm used. 8 is plenty for a smallish space. Larger spiral bulbs (more than 42 watts) are typically not as efficient. Divide the lumens/watt to be sure you are using the most efficient bulbs. You want at least 5-6K lumens of CFL per square foot.

i wouldnt do the huge CFL's lots of smaller ones are more efficient but yes do use 5000-6500K range bulbs instead of 2700K for vegging, but keep those 2700K for flowering later, if you do intend to do that

Yeah sorry I didn't clarify about using the 40 watt CFLS for vegging only.

Right now I am using about 6 23 watt 6500k for vegging just bought a 250 watt 6500k CFL and it busted as soon as I plugged it in so I'm staying away from the higher wattages.
