Wierd Question about Ivy Plants

Hi all. Ok I've been wanting an bonsai tree but I don't wanna pay $30 or w/e for one right now but my question is can I take a potted Ivy plant and turn it into a Bonsai tree or not. I'm looking at the one I have right now and it seems to be growing taller and not growing along the ground witch got me thinking.

I would like your guy's and gal's input on this weird question and adventure I was thinking about going on.
