Why is every synthetic substance becoming illegal?

I've noticed that a product known as spice (a synthetic cannabinoid sold as incense) has been outlawed in a couple of states even though no real tests have been done to even determine its effects. why must everything that makes us feel good be banned? Dextromethorphan (a synthetic opiate found in cough medicines to replace codeine) is being monitored by the DEA and may soon be only available through prescription, even caffeine is being considered a problem and may be capped at some point in the near future. this is ridiculous...

Because, anything that cant be patented and owned by a big Pharmaceutical company cuts into their profit margins and they have massive amounts of lobbyists that go to congress and get them to pass laws to ban any substance that could pose a threat to their business.

The government sure as hell doesnt care about what the people want, it's all about who can pump in the most money through political donations and perks. Hence the big issue with legalizing Marijuana, they all know it isnt the devil weed it's been claimed to be but it poses a threat to companies that make all sorts of synthetic drugs.

It just cracks me up how people will say Marijuana is bad but you listen to commercials for everything from a pill to fix yellow toenails to antidepressants and then they run though a list of side effects that are worse than the damn thing you're trying to cure.

Here is the side effects for Sporanox, the anti fungal pill for yellow toenails..."Diarrhea; dizziness; gas; headache; nausea; stomach pain or upset; stuffy nose.Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bloating; chest pain; confusion; dark urine; diarrhea; depression; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever; loss of appetite; numbness or tingling of the hands or feet; pale stools; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; severe or persistent nausea; shortness of breath; sudden weight gain; swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet; swollen or tender abdomen; unusual tiredness or fatigue; vomiting; yellowing of the skin or eyes."

Side effects of weed..."munchies, cartoons, sleep"

Dextromethorphan is used to make Meth so thats the big issue with that.

anyway, the government also bans stuff that "may be abused by children"....please, please wont you think of the children. Thats a BS excuse and they know it. if they ban every substance that could be abused they'll have to nerf the entire world.

DXM is NOT used to make meth.
you got it confused with pseudoephedrine

because the government has been very good at making it the 'norm' that we the people are not the ones who decide what's considered a dangerous drug.

they have written the law in the way that they don't have to ask experts, or the public, or anybody. only a few politicians have to agree that this will score them positive political points.

thats a great point. every prescription drug that can cure one thing is going to fuck up a whole bunch of other stuff.

i was actually pretty concerned about the spice stuff that was being sold, i smoked it for a while as a substitute for weed, now don't get me wrong the feeling was pretty good. after about 2 weeks of smoking about a joint a day my heart started to flutter every time i had a joint. now having a heart attack at 20 would have been a bad move so i decided to take up marijuana again,
i mean at least with weed you have the whole of the 60's generation to study the long term affects of weed however you just don't have long term research to find out what the long term affects were with the spice chemicals. i don't mind getting fucked off my face one night, but when your in your 40's you don't exactly want your balls falling off or your asshole going inside out or some shit.

if no one's ever experienced a heart flutter, it doesn't hurt, but it makes your chest feel weird and kind of dizzy, and it's when your heart skips a beat or does a double beat, like the same side of your heart beats twice, (in short, not good)
