i never said that blacks needed the media to tell them how to act; but when the media depicts blacks behaving in a particular fashion, other blacks will emulate this behavior to a degree that is equivalent to the prevalence of those behaviors in their community. the fact of the matter is that people will conform to what they're exposed to.
Eh, no they don't.

Generally speaking, those people are called "sheeple"...are you saying they're some kind of black sheep?

those 'sheeple' are the vast majority and yes, most people do conform to the perceptions of the majority. check out the conformity experiment and the stanford prison experiment. or i could explain it myself, but i do suggest you read about it briefly

They obviously don't conform to the majority which in America is white people.
well it isnt a psychic phenomena; these blacks are surrounded by a majority that behave differently. look at blacks in Britain, or in communities where the majority of folks are affluent, well educated whites; or affluent, well educated others for for that matter.

The "..." signify a clause.. so don't get so uptightly racist yet..

Why haven't African Americans assimilated into American culture... as well as American Italians or American Irish, American English, American Spanish, etc..?

Why is it that African Americans seem to be the only exception? By exception I mean why are more African Americans in jail than their counterparts? Why the higher crime rate, the higher teen pregnancy rate, the higher fatherless households rate?

By no means is this thread meant to be against African Americans, rather, it's meant to be about the injustices they, as a race, face in America, and WHY?

IMO, it has a lot to do with the drug culture. Ever since the beginning, illegal drugs have been linked to minorities. I would like to examine this further, and I would like to hear any inputs from the board, any first hand accounts or personal experiences.

In your opinion, what do you think are the main factors holding assimilation into the culture back with African Americans?
Everyone wants 'the good life', but not everyone has a legitimate means of attaining it. The reason not everyone has a legitimate means of attaining it is because of the discrimination that still exists. In turn, people who don't have the means, but still want the results, find other ways to attain it. Illegitimate means.

It's one of the reasons there aren't as many white people in jail. We've always had the means to get 'the good life' legitimately. Some white people have an easier time of it than others, but even poor white people don't have the same glass ceilings and stereotypes put on them as minorities.

You reasoning sounds border line retarded. White people are in fact discriminated against as much as blacks
and even legally so. If there is less whites arrested its because they commit less crime.

You obviously haven't thought it out.

White people do commit less crimes, I already explained why.

Look at what society says the good life is.... rich, powerful, lots of possessions.... Minorities historically never had the same access to opportunities that white people did but they still wanted to be rich and powerful. If you don't have a legitimate means of accessing those things, people will seek illegitimate means. It's the same reason there's more poor people in prison. If you're poor it's a lot harder to access an education, which means your job options can be limited. It's hard being bombarded with images of 'the good life' being a poor schmuck making minimum wage.... People often chose to make the risky, easy, money.... It's a double whammy if you're poor and a minority.

I have no idea what happened in this 30 page thread, but I will say this:

My ex-boyfriend was black and grew up black. If you were smart, the other black kids beat you up. If you espoused an intent to escape from the ghetto to better pastures, the black kids beat you up. Basically, if you did anything that would involve escaping from the toxic black community, the other black kids beat you up. That's that.
